You've got to be pretty singular minded to think your state is the best, imo. I can think of a bunch of good/bad things about every state I've ever been to. Except NH, it's horrible. And, MO is pretty great.

I guess Texans think their state is awesome, but, for example, I wonder what they think of the hot, drought-filled summer months? Price to pay for mild winters? Sure, but still a pretty big negative, I'd have to think.

Asking if it is the 'best' forces people to measure states against each other, but I have a tough time doing that.

But Madigan will keep getting re-elected. That's what I don't get. Oviously many of us think the State is awful - 25% think it's the worst in the union, but the same crooks stay in power. Damn Chicago!

I like Texas. I like it better than a lot of other states. It's not the best. It's run by crazy people. It's bad on pollution, health care, and education. It's hot as all living [expletive] for 6 or 7 months. But it's also delightful for the other 5 or 6 months (ie, never cold), work opportunities are super, and with the growth comes new restaurants/recreation options all the time. And no state income tax, which is not bad. Oh, and the BBQ and tex mex. I don't think I could give those things up.

Most are just accustomed to it, I found. People are actually recreating at Town Lake in July. Running even. I always thought it was crazy.

I run in July. Not very far, and not very well. But what else can you do? It's like the people who run in Minnesota in January. You get accustomed to what you have.
