im not exactly sure? i dont really have a router...its a wireless gateway...

my "last resort" is going to be moving the tv and xbox near the internet cable so i can plug it in directly, a wired connection, and see what i can do from there...

im fine with having a wired connection...id just rather not have cables all over the floor...

i called the xbox live support number and after awhile, they said that id have to call at/t to get my "firewall" information...which im not exactly sure how to ask for...

but i think you may be correct (on the one connection at a time thing)...

I looked at the link you posted earlier and it looks like that device does have NAT, so nevermind on that. Try opening up a command prompt and typing "ipconfig". Find the address for "default gateway" and put that in a web browser. That should let you mess with the wireless gateway's setting (firewall, etc.)

that's why I thought the wired connection would be a good test. That ought to be effortless unless there's some restriction on the router. Seems odd that any company would install a single connection setup at this point. Most people I go visit have more than one computer connecting at a time.

Yeah, I'm not very computer savvy but I doubt any new wireless modem would be set up that way. I've got a desktop, 2 laptops, wii, and a PS3 all running off of my router. I think I have some type of westell wireless router or something.

I haven't read all the posts, but are you sure there's not some security setup on that gateway? I seem to remember those 2Wires coming with WEP turned on. When you first connected your laptop over wireless, do you remember entering a WEP key, or doing something with WPA?

yeah, my 2wire has the WEP, and i entered it thru the xbox when i was trying to get it work...

its really strange, 'cause when i go to "test xbox live connection" it picks up my network...it shows it on the screen (2wire577) and it shows 4 strong signal bars...it just can't pick up an IP address...

im hoping when i get to try the wired connection it'll "magically" unlock something for the wireless...

Do you have a static ip address?
