This is from The Hollywood Reporter, and it's glorious:
After Sunday's controversial, ambiguous first-season finale of AMC's The Killing, star Mereille Enos told THR, "There has been an Internet revolt!" Some pundits wonder if it won't slow the hot show's Emmy momentum just before Emmy ballots are due (June 24). But in an interview with THR's Kim Masters soon to air on the KCRW show The Business, showrunner Veena Sud says she knows the controversy is a big deal, but she thinks it's terrific.

"I'm flattered," says Sud, "and I guess surprised a little bit. But certainly it's a good feeling to know people are watching and talking about the show. I mean, the last time I felt this personally myself, and saw this type of reaction, was when The Sopranos ended its run [with a shockingly abrupt, ambiguous, mostly despised 2007 finale]. If the show can be in that company, it's a deep compliment."
She personally puts her show in the company of The Sopranos, then says she's flattered that people put her show in the company of The Sopranos. Remarkable.

What a bimbo. It's not a freakin' good thing for people to be "talking about your show" when what they're saying is "I'm not going to watch that show anymore". And I'm not even going to dignify the Sopranos thing with a comment.

There was another quote, something like she read on the internet several people saying they were upset about the ending, and three other people then said "well, I've never seen The Killing but now I want to because people are reacting so emotionally". Then my brain thought:

1. Upsetting a lot of people who stuck with you for 13 hours is not worth 3 new viewers.
2. People's emotional reaction has nil to do w/ characters or what matters, it's purely "you suck"
3. Those 3 new viewers will forget they want to see this POS by the time the DVDs come out in 6 months.

I've heard similar things said about Game of Thrones- people want to see it because of the visceral reaction, lots of people abandoning the show, etc... It's such an interesting case study between the two. Personally, I think the people who gave up on Game of Thrones two weeks ago are out of their minds.

I saw this fun little quote re: The Killing: "We said from the very beginning this is the anti-cop cop show."

Um... really? Because other than a few small things, it would appear to me that you threw every cop show cliché in the book at the viewers.

Anyway, all of this is academic. It's a way to waste our time until Breaking Bad comes back.

People who abandon Game of Thrones will not be missed. Please leave.
They're not worthy of a show, that follows well received books, much less has the balls to whack Anyone, at Anytime. I find it awesome, entertaining, and refreshing.

On the Killing; I hated a lot of what happened. I liked a lot too. I despised the finger pointing each episode to only shift 40 minutes later. The ending was horrific, and reading the producers comments, its not a surprise.
Unfortunately, I'll probably continue to torcher myself, just to find out who did it.

But next season is going to overlap 2 Killings, isn't the premise of the show the entire picture of ONE KILLING?

I almost abandoned Game Of Thrones early because if found it hard to follow--but i also tend to have a short attention span with tv shows when a bunch of [expletive] is thrown at me at once.

I stuck with it though and I enjoyed it. I still need to go back and re-watch the season for clarity though.

As for the Killing, I enjoyed it. I wasn't angry at the season finale. I do think they could have done some things differently, but that can be said for a lot of shows. As mentioned, it was more just filler until my other shows came back--True Blood and Entourage. If I could somehow watch season's 1 and 2 of breaking bad, I'd be all over that as well.

Stand under my window next time Franklin pitches in a close game. You might get lucky.
