Yes, but the menu is set and typically the dishes are served one at a time with some sort of progression. With tapas you order several small dishes from a large menu and new dishes can be served while you're eating other dishes. Tasting menus were first popularized by restaurants serving French haute cuisine, now it's offered at most "foodie restaurants". I like tasting menus because you can sample many of a chef's best dishes.

I had my first tapas experience at Salt in St. Louis. Very much enjoyed it.

Tapas can be a lot of fun. It's a good place to take a first date because ordering and eating takes some coordination so gives you something to talk about.

By far the best tapas restaurant I've ever been to is Jaleo in Las Vegas. Jose Andres pretty much popularized tapas in the US.



TM, I deserved that.

After spending about 30 minutes in East St. Louis today, I am concerned that the area I passed through has very few first world problems. I might be overreacting, but I have really never had a street level view (at least, not in the last 15 years) and I swear, when I saw 2 amazing buildings - stuff that would take a million dollars to replicate - with literal forests growing on their roofs...and the house on the main drag with a for sale sign of $750...I really almost cried today.
