This is easy. Make Pujols a player manager. That way you can pay him more and still cut payroll. We could also cut out the third base coach because Pujols doesn't pay attention to him anyway. I suppose now that the Belgians or whoever own Budweiser, a beer distributorship is out of the question.

Thanks for that depressing thought. I've tried to repress those feelings but you are 100% accurate.heyzeus wrote:But even moreso, it's sad to see Tony go because it's the beginning of the end of the 2011 Cardinals. I'm just coming to grips with this season being over. It was [expletive] awesome. I haven't loved baseball this much since I was a little kid. And this morning, just 3 days after winning it all, Tony's retirement announcement is the first of many pieces of 2011 to disappear and fade away. I'm not ready to let go yet, I guess.

I think you might have it exactly wrong.heyzeus wrote:Tony's retirement announcement is the first of many pieces of 2011 to disappear and fade away. I'm not ready to let go yet, I guess.
I bet the Cards hire Oquendo and we see a fairly quiet offseason since there is a good mix of young talent + veteran leadership signed for next season. I think you'll see TLRs stamp on the Cards organization for a long time, which is exactly how he wants it.
Cardinals baseball will = LaRussa baseball for the foreseeable future.

Somebody earlier in this thread mentioned the coaching staff remaining the same whoever they hire. Would the new manager not get to bring in his own staff?

They said the new mgr will have his own coaching staff...wonder if Oquendo and big Mac will get ousted if the new mgr isn't an internal one

You know the gold nuggets your son's been laying in the Pampers for lo these many days? When you go home this evening, it will all be mustard-yellow [expletive].heyzeus wrote:But even moreso, it's sad to see Tony go because it's the beginning of the end of the 2011 Cardinals. At the presser, Mo said the new guy would have the autonomy to bring in his own guys.Bama_Card_Fan wrote:Somebody earlier in this thread mentioned the coaching staff remaining the same whoever they hire. Would the new manager not get to bring in his own staff?
