Don't go to Paris then. CDG tops those, AND you get that wonderful French helpfulness to go along with it.TimeForGuinness wrote:My Top 3 most hated airports:Swirls wrote:Agreed, [expletive] United!TimeForGuinness wrote:Yeah, [expletive] United!cardinalkarp wrote:It was about 6 or 7 years ago. That sounds like a drag, just what you want to do on your vacation is run to the airport every day to see if your luggage showed up. I'm not defending UA at all, that sucks. I'm just saying that at O'Hare, I have the impression that when the [expletive] hits the fan, they get some preference getting flights out. Maybe that's not correct.
To top things off, on our flight back (which went through Chicago again) our flight got cancelled because of snow and once again United didn't do jack [expletive]. Luckily, we saw the flight was in jeopardy when in Miami & we booked a hotel near the airport which all sold out by the time we arrived in Chicago.
Then because of all the cancelled flights the best they could do was put us on standby the next day so we sat around the airport for hours....so yeah, [expletive] United.
I've been in and out of airports literally since I was five years old. I can honestly say, in 25+ years of flying both for business and leisure, I have never had a round trip flight from O'Hare that either left or arrived on time. Often times either the departure flight or the return flight will leave/arrive on time, but if it does, then the other flight will be delayed. I hate O'Hare with the fire of a thousand suns. I vehemently refuse to fly out of either O'Hare or Dallas-Fort Worth. I've had many similar issues at DFW, but learned much quickly there so I haven't flown out of it in years.
The only times anymore that I go through O'Hare are for business when the company buys the tickets and I have no choice in the matter. If I must fly through Chicago, I will choose Midway every day of the week.
O'Hare
Dallas-Fort Worth
Dulles
Every airport has their quirks, but those 3...holy [expletive]...just rent a damn car instead.

What's wrong with DFW? I guess it's huge which means gate changes are a hike, but it's well connected, so that never bothered me.

I don't know what it is about DFW, but I'm always switching terminals to catch a connection that will leave in 5 minutes...even though it's the same airline. That being said, I rarely get delayed there.Arthur Dent wrote:What's wrong with DFW? I guess it's huge which means gate changes are a hike, but it's well connected, so that never bothered me.
I should put Dulles before DFW...I hate Dulles...but not as much as O'Hare.

I always assumed DFW separated flights by size/destination, not necessarily airline. So, if you're flying into Dallas from Springfield, MO and connecting to a flight headed to, say, Vegas it'll involve a terminal change.TimeForGuinness wrote:I don't know what it is about DFW, but I'm always switching terminals to catch a connection that will leave in 5 minutes...even though it's the same airline. That I would understand & kinda tolerate, but I've flown big city to big city and had to change terminals before.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:I always assumed DFW separated flights by size/destination, not necessarily airline. I guess I can be a little unfair to some of the airports. I don't book my travel, someone else does for me. So really, I should blame them for allowing me 5 minutes in between flights at a major US airport. Or maybe, you know, I should actually check my itinerary before they book it for me...AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:Huh, I'm probably wrong then.TimeForGuinness wrote:That I would understand & kinda tolerate, but I've flown big city to big city and had to change terminals before.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:I always assumed DFW separated flights by size/destination, not necessarily airline. I can't stand American out of Ohare, probably just because I don't have enough experience with United to hate them. Last weekend we had made our way through security in St. Thomas, sat there for an hour, and I get an email alert the 2nd leg of our journey was cancelled, Charlotte to Ohare. We are thinking whatever, will stay the night in Charlotte and fly to Chicago in the morning. A half hour later, American rebooks our entire flight to the next night, it took us two hours on the phone to get us back on the flight to Charlotte, and in crappy seats when we had paid for extra leg room (being 6'4 I am in utter misery without it). Why the hell didn't they just keep us on the flight to Charlotte and then reschedule the 2nd leg to the next morning? It turns out, they did this to a lot of people on the flight who didn't find out they had been rebooked till they went to board, and they all had the same thought as us to get to Charlotte. They held the plane up 45 mins to get those people rebooked back on the flight.cardinalkarp wrote:This....mother f'ers lost our luggage for 4 damn days on a trip the the Virgin Islands and wouldn't give us a single thing for the inconvienence.TimeForGuinness wrote:[expletive] everything about United and their mother
And for those who have never been to the Virgin Islands, let's just say there's no a damn place on the entire island to buy things you need. Well, there's a K-Mart...kinda. I say that because I've never quite seen a store in such bad shape in my life. The shelves were literally empty, and what they did have cost 2 to 3 times what items should cost.
God damn, that vacation was a nightmare.
Not to mention, we didn't get our suitcase until Chicago, so I got to wear the same clothes for two days.

Re: United Airlines, I hate you deeply.
this is American Airlines related, but what the hell is up with airline miles. i guess maybe i just dont get it.
A long time ago, i got an AA Citi Card because i was doing a lot of traveling so i thought it made sense but i really cant recall where i benefited from the miles.
So anyway, i really only use that card to pay recurring bills and those bills dont really amount to much so needless to say i havent been racking up the miles. Apparently over the past few years ive only accumulated like 11k miles, which doesnt sound right so im assuming that the miles expire.
Anyway, i went to purchase a ticket and i thought, hey ill use my miles. 12.5k miles for said ticket. Since im a little over 1k short on miles, i figure ill just buy the rest of those miles. Hey a ticket for $60, i can deal with that.
nah--there are processing fees. $110 worth of processing fees--$30 for the miles (what?) and $80 to use my miles.
So, I'm spending $60 on more miles, $30 on the processing fee for more miles, and then $80 to use my miles.
~$170 for a ticket. I can that cheaper through another airline. I know the benefit of earning miles, so i guess my rant is just geared more towards the processing fees. Am i to understand that you're always gonna spend at least $80 on a "free" ticket through AA?

Dunno what it is for AA. For Delta it's like $10 total for processing fees per person if you redeem miles for a flight.go birds wrote:this is American Airlines related, but what the hell is up with airline miles. i guess maybe i just dont get it.
