Could he go 0-fer-the rest of the month and still be over the said slugging percentage?
Well, it's not the month -- it's the 14 games since the wager -- but yes.

At this point, if Duncan plays every day (say, 90 more AB), hits .220, with 3 doubles and one homer -- probably the least he could possibly manage and still stay in the lineup -- I'll still lose.

It's not over, but it's close. It would take a slump as precipitious as the hot streak has been, and keeping him in the lineup throughout.

I might have to revisit such a bet next year, but at this point, the odds and the math are stacked way against me.
Yeah, but isn't this the best kind of being wrong?
Absolutely!!! no complaints whatsoever.

Steve, somewhere in this thread you talked about Duncan hitting a slump, and I think he's officially slumping. He's only had two hits in his last 17 AB's.

Actually that's three for his last 17....and 3 for 20 as well.

In his defense though, he's still smoking the ball for a lot of those outs (long fly outs, line drives, hard ground balls, etc.), and he's facing a higher % of lefties lately.

It's a mini-slump, but he's still taking good AB's and making solid contact, so I can't complain.

Duncan is hitting .377/.452/.679 since the start of the bet in 53 ABs ~63 PAs.

So remind me, was the bet that he would slug over .440, or have an OBP over .440?

Update for Duncan.....

40 bases in 54 at bats. .741 slugging. 15 HR's in 191 at bats. The young man is dealing.

Steverino you may as well concede.

Was that a huge at bat, or what.

Agreed.

Even if this proves to be a random variation, the kid picked a helluva good time to have one, didn't he?

Given how we've struggled even with his production, I can't imagine where we would without him.
