I didn't want to start a new one, and I didn't want to clutter the belleville one...and my gut felt like the part of ESL I saw today just wasn't first world. It was harrowing and heartbreaking.Tambourine Man wrote:doc, take your humanity and sympathy to another thread. This thread is about people with real problems.

But seriously, it's as third-world as anywhere in the country. Sometime I drive around down there just to view the devastation, to remind myself that no matter how bad things are going for me, I'm really a very lucky person. I love reading up on the town's history.

Part of me wants to take pictures (I will be sort of between there and Belleville all week) but part of me feels like that is exploiting the place/people. And part of me is scared that my camera will get stolen. I have visited hovels in Guatemala - and they were more cared for than the areas I saw today. Homes made of the hoods of trucks and cement blocks. But had lemon trees and were painted in festive colors. I am definitely taking your cue and reading up on the history of ESL. All I know about is Josephine Baker, the race riots and the recent political issues.
But I will drop this in the thread, don't want to derail.

Mowed my lawn on Sunday and the self-propel function doesn't work quite as well as it used to. I'm forced to walk much more slowly than I used to.

The battery for my key fob on my Vette is dead so I couldn't remote start the car after work. The car was so hot when I got in it and it must have taken a full block before the AC cooled it down to a tolerable level.

I ordered a carryout fiesta lime chicken from Applebees (I know and agree with every bad thing you're about to say about Applebees). Then I went shopping and bought some fresh roast beef, provolone cheese, horseradish sauce, and sourdough buns. Now this fiesta lime chicken is looking even less appealing than it was in the beginning.
