I don't know what B) is, but it's not a taco.

I doubt there are any good Mexican places in St. Louis because there aren't any Mexicans. You can't even manage to do Italian right with the Italian population, how are you going to do Mexican?
I have to put in a shameless plug...The food scene here only has a few bright spots, but one of them is the number of good, local, Mexican restaurants here. Just by my workplace there are 4 within walking distance and another 2 within a 5 minute drive. Within a 15 minute drive there are easily another 8 to 10, probably more I don't even know about. Seems like another one pops up every few months. Some are better than others, but it depends what you are looking for. They range from the very authentic hole-in-the-wall places attached to a Mexican grocery store to the popular ones that have polished things up a bit and expanded into local chains.
I believe it there, but St. Louis is weirdly void of Mexicans. There might be like 8 living there.

Population Demographics By Hispanic Or Latino Ethnicity
St. Louis, MO-IL MSA U.S.
Hispanic or Latino Ethnicity (of any race)
2.7%

16.7%

Source: "American Community Survey 2011" U.S. Census Bureau, 2012.

Latinos make up only 2.6 percent of the population of the St. Louis metropolitan statistical area, according to "Where We Stand," a report by East West Gateway Council of Governments, which uses Census numbers. St. Louis ranks 34 out of 35 other cities for Latino populations. That's just above Pittsburgh and well below Kansas City, with a population of 8.2 percent. The average is 15.7 percent, according to the report.

As a percentage of the population, 2.6 percent is small, certainly. But Latinos claim bigger numbers than Asians, with just 2.1 percent. And the population has, indeed, grown in the last few decades. In 1990, according to East West Gateway's report, the number crept along at just 0.3 percent.
this place is like Guadalajara north compared to when I was a kid.

Honestly, Taco B>Taco A. In general. Taco B in that picture has too much meat, but tomatoes make everything better. Tex Mex in general is also better than authentic Mexican. I've given the authentic stuff a few chances and it's just not good food. I hate tamales. Authentic Mexican is a notch better than German or Swiss cuisine.

Taco B hardly looks edible. Maybe largely due to the zoom which really accentuates how non cheesy that cheese looks and how undelicious those tomato-esque dices look. Don't even look at the beef if you really still want to eat it.

From the Painted Burro that's about a 5 minute walk from my place. Their tacos are incredible.

Those two pictures, I agree. If you make Taco B with good ingredients, it's better. Taco A doesn't have enough going on for my taste.

Cotija cheese would really make Taco A pop.

We have a Mexican grocery nearby with a restaurant that makes authentic Mexican food, has great reviews, etc... I figured I'd give it a try a few months back and maybe I just hadn't had it done right yet. Probably won't go back.
