Happy for Minor. Good comeback season with the Royals.

Did Ventura have any experience before the White Sox hired him?

If the catcher is the manager, does he get unlimited mound visits or is it restricted to 2 before a change has to be made?

i really don't know. i'm sure stl wasn't the first but it feels that way. i'm so locked on as mike as the manager and i see nothing. then i see guys like ausmus, kapler, counsell, boone, cora, etc get hired and i wonder.

get a guy with a respected career (within the game) but with no coaching experience so he has no leverage. i imagine a lot of clubs *want* their manager to utilize the data the stat nerds they hired are providing. though that wouldn't explain why matheny continues to be employed or why the StL FO shields him so much.

i know there's nothing to it but it seems like it and since MM is at the helm i tend to dwell.

Old article but relevant to the conversation

Perhaps Bill Veeck had the right idea in 1951 when he dreamed up the idea of Grandstand Managers Night with the St. Louis Browns, giving fans placards that read "Yes" or "No" and letting them make managerial decisions from the seats.

The way the game is evolving, letting fans decide strategy on their smartphones could be the wave of the future.

It began in 2012 when the Cardinals' Mike Matheny and the White Sox's Robin Ventura were hired with no experience in the dugout as a manager or a coach. Walt Weiss followed with the Rockies in '13 and Brad Ausmus with the Tigers last season.

The Angels have agreed to a deal with infield prospect Kevin Maitan, reports ESPN’s Buster Olney (via Twitter). The former Braves prospect was declared a free agent by commissioner Rob Manfred following his office’s investigations into Atlanta’s circumvention of rules on the international free agent market and in the domestic amateur draft.

Pujols to LA, Freese to LA, Rams to LA, Maitan to LA, Stanton to LA?

Everyone I want in St. Louis keeps leaving me for LA. Better keep a close watch on my wife's airline purchases.
