I've read all 17 pages of the thread, and understand the ramifications of OU's loss last night to Texas Tech vis-a-vis a Big 12 team in the National Championship. Now that OU has lost, only Mizzou or Kansas can make it to the NC game by winning the Big 12. It still doesn't mean the Big 12 picture is muddied up: it's still a two-team race in each division. By not eliminating Texas, things stay the same for another week. I suppose one could argue that giving Texas more hope of winning the South makes things cloudier, but realistically OU is in the same position in the South as before: win one game and they win the division.

It's really only a big deal for Sooner fans. Mizzou and Kansas still have to win out to make the NC game.

West Virginia went to #3 in the BCS standings, ahead of Missouri. Stupid.

Nonetheless, if Missouri wins next week and the week after, they'll be ahead of WVU.

Kind of weird that West Virginia moved up like they did...

Well WVU has been nipping at Mizzou's heels for the past few weeks, mostly because they have been ahead in the human polls. I would venture a guess that Oklahoma's loss dropped Mizzou's value a little bit, while South Florida won big this week. There was only .02 between the schools last week. Regardless, if West Virginia is still ahead of Missouri should it knock off Kansas and then win the Big 12 (while WVU is idle as there is no championship game for the Big East), then I will call shenanigans on the BCS system.

Here's the BCS Top 7, and their BCS ranking number:

1: LSU .9904
2: KU .9488
3: WVU .8878
4: MU .8707
5: OSU .8602
6: ASU .8019
7: UGA .7438

West Virginia has edged Mizzou by .0131. WVU has UConn (ranked 20 now; if lose to WVU probably not ranked any more) and unranked Pitt. Mizzou has "@" Kansas (ranked 2 now; if lose to MU then will still be top 10) and Oklahoma or Texas (10 and 13 as of now, respectively; will still be ranked in the top 25 at the end of the season IMO). K-State getting blown out by Nebraska last week made that win weaker than WVU's narrow win over a ranked Cincinnati. But if Mizzou can get jumped by WVU even though it won, then Mizzou can (and should) jump back over them should they win the Big 12 title.

For Mizzou, essentially nothing has changed: win out and they'll be in the National Championship game. If somehow they do win out but fail to overtake the less than two-hundredths of a point lead West Virginia has on them, well, Mizzou will have another football travesty to add to the list.

Don't be fooled. They got hosed by the refs on a few occasions. And that last KSU touchdown was a garbage touchdown.

With the exception of about 5 minutes in the second quarter, MU controlled the game.

I can understand WV leapfrogging us. Our last few wins have been sloppy, combined with what was already mentioned about South Florida and Oklahoma.

I'm with Ben, if we beat #2 Kansas and win the Big 12 title game, I'll be pissed if we don't get in.

Not to pick on you, JC, but rather prove a point....

The last two weeks, they won by 17 and 14 points. In the 17 point game, they were up by 24 late in the game. By most accounts, beating a team like K-State by 24 points is a pretty handy whoopin'.

My point? Think of how far the program has come. At any point between 1985 and 2005, beating a team by 14 points or more would've made us giddy.

A quick peek at some common opponents:

Colorado:
KU won 19-14 at Colorado
MU won 55-10 at Colorado

Nebraska:
KU won 76-39 at home
MU won 41-6 at home

Texas A & M:
KU won 19-11 on the road
MU won 40-26 at home

Iowa State:
KU won 45-7 at home
MU won 42-28 at home

Kansas State:
KU won 30-24 at KSU
MU won 49-32 at KSU

And that's the last of their common opponents, as MU opted not to play Pop Warner teams for their non-conference schedule.

ISU and Texas A & M were more impressive for KU. Nebraska was a push (that 76 is a gaudy number but they beat the 'Huskers by just 2 more than Mizzou did). And Colorado and KSU were more impressive wins by Mizzou.

RC, I was thinking about how they were outgained by a hundred yards plus in the first half. Not to be to critical because what an awesome problem to be discussing. Still when talking about a run at the title everything is in play.
