My prostate is enlarged and PSA is sky high. I've known this since last year when my kidney stone problems started, but the doc wanted to defer until after the stones were handled. Then it was deferred again by the bout with sepsis. So, I finally had a biopsy last week. The ultrasound showed a fairly large "mass". He mumbled something about not getting ahead of ourselves. I left convinced of a positive test result.

Got the call yesterday. It's benign. Follow up in six months. I cried. I laughed. I feel incredibly grateful, thankful and lucky especially in light of the stories in this thread.

we learned this past week that my uncle has prostate cancer, or at least, that's the feeling right now. he's still doing tests and all, actually supposed to hear something today. he's in his late 70s i believe and has had some health scares the last few years but nothing this "big". we've been lucky as a family regarding health issues but it was certainly odd/scary to learn that someone in our family had gotten it. that said, my aunt and uncle seem to be taking it well.

Prostate cancer is very treatable if caught reasonably early. Both my brother and Dad (before his throat cancer) were treated with radiation seeds, which seemed to work. The word is scary as hell, but joe that's one for sure that can be treated with a great deal of success.

thanks jim. i think thats why there is a bit of initial "relief" for us in the sense that i think they did catch it early

It's my understanding that every male, if he lives long enough will end up with a large prostate.

Good news. I will drink to everyone's health.

If you are going to drink for good news then what the hell. I had some skin cancer removed three years ago, and I thought I had some more but they sent it out for a biopsy and it was fine.

Take the drink now, and celebrate.

Now read the rest ... it's basal cell. Not a big deal.
