I was thinking there could be some cause of action there. I could see withholding it long enough to verify that the receipt wasn't tampered with, but to completely ban it seemed a bit arbitrary to me.33anda3rd wrote:That is illegal. A tip seen by the law as a gift from diner to server for services. It's not the restaurant's place to determine what happens with it other than collecting it via credit card receipt and paying it out to the server.

Re: Rant: Tip Culture
This place is trying something I've advocated for awhile, with good success. Strict no tipping policy, charge a little more for the food, and their servers are guaranteed either $10 an hour or 20% of food sales (whichever is higher). I think at least 75% of all server jobs would do better under this system, and things would be a lot less stressful all around.

I was obligated to tip my shuttle driver from the airport today, which seems ridiculous, considering I paid for a ticket and all.

Short of chucking my luggage out of the trunk and driving around in circles... I just dont see what a guy could do to not earn that tip. Am I completely missing the point of tips or something?

Am I paying the guy 3 to 5 bucks to lift 45 pounds 3 feet off the ground? Because that's not what I'd put the going rate on that.
