I don't have a problem with the opt-out for some of the reasons stated. But I'd be darn sure that there's no clause about not offering arbitration if he does opt out. If he does, he should be treated like any other potential FA. Of course, if he's opting out, then he's probably played well enough to be a Type A guy.
Now, I do have somewhat of a problem with an opt-out AND a NTC.

He was upset with LA because they wouldn't trade for Paletta.Popeye_Card wrote:I agree with Steve. Drew also had very important demands concerning team medical supplies.

And Atlanta wouldn't upgrade to plasma TV's in the trainer's room.

I like it...but my guess is that it won't be backloaded (which I also don't have a problem with...just stating)skmsw wrote:Ditto.withAloe wrote:Perfect.Popeye_Card wrote:As for Holliday, make it 7 years, NTC, opt-out after 4, but in exchange the Cards get team options for years 6 and 7.

As for Holliday, make it 7 years, NTC, opt-out after 4, but in exchange the Cards get team options for years 6 and 7. That is only fair. And it probably alieviates most of the risk of when Holliday's defense may make him average, and the Cards have no places to move him (1B taken, no DH).
Love it, but doubt if Boras would accept the team option.
And that's fine...... I wouldn't make that a deal-breaker.

Jim Bowden IV, Sirius MLB Radio about an hour ago on Twitter: "The Holliday may be over for most, but not St.Louis......Cards - Holliday closing in on 98.5m dollar deal"
Goold, a little less than an hour ago on Twitter: "Number crunch: Five years at $98.5m is $19.7m per. Boras did not seem to like 5-year frame. Six years at $98.5m is $16.4 or less than Bay."
