At this point I don't really care about how much per year it is. We need him, he needs us. Just agree on something and make it flipping official!

The best offer he's had from any other team was 5/$82.5M from the Red Sox, who are no longer in the market for him.
6/$98.5M would seem to make more sense in that framework.
But mostly, I'm in the same boat as jim on this. I just want it done so I can go ahead and assume they'll be contenders in 2010.

there's no sense in overpaying him for 5 years.
if it were $20 a year for 2 or 3 years I wouldn't care that much, but $20 million for 5 years in this market seems like gross overpayment and caving in to Boras. That's closer to what Teixeira is getting than it is to the $17 million a year number we've been tossing around.

I've been hoping for 5yr/90 million from the beginning.
$19.7 million a year is still less than Ankiel + Greene + Glaus last year ($21.75 million).

5/100 is a TON, but hell, why not? I hope Albert resigns for $25mm/year

Bernie says Mo isn't responding to his texts. I wouldn't either with or without negotiating going on with Boras.

As a Cards fan, I thank God each and every day for the Colorado school system [-o<
FWIW, and I haven't seen anything outside of SE Missouri being said, but this goes along with the Cards and schools. A lot of talk about Pujols signing long term may go with this, too. Supposedly (and I don't believe it for a second until he shows up), Pujols has purchased some land just north of Cape Girardeau for a house. The word is that he wants his kids to attend Saxony Lutheran school which is just north of Cape. The rumor is that he gave the school $1 million in '09. Anyway, like I said, I don't put any stock into it, but the connection with the school made me laugh and think about it.
