well, the left handed part is even better. More experimenting for Tony.

Or maybe we can just scoot Schumaker over to third and let Tony come up with some reason for having a noodle armed left handed ex outfielder 2nd baseman experiment. Don't sell him short. We gots to have that leadoff type guy.

Don't forget, Holliday was a 3B until he turned 21.

I would think we'd want to pay significantly less than $17 million in today's salaries. I think that's why I'm not too discouraged about a potential opt out. If you're comfortable with 7/119, 7/119 with an opt out after 5 (85 mil) years shouldn't be a deal-breaker, IMO.
Maybe not a dealbreaker, but it is a worse contract. If he sucks then, he's staying. If the market inflates and he hits like Manny has lately, he's leaving. Lose-lose.

I would be interested in signing him to a new contract after year five, if he's still a good player. This way we've ONLY signed him to a new contract if he's a bad player. Do you see the difference there? There is only downside after year five, and $34M is a large chunk of change to give to someone who is not worth it.

And the earlier the opt-out is, the worse it is.

I'd like to see what Thome can do in CF.

I don't have a lot of faith in El Guapo or Everyone's Alcoholic Uncle from the left side of the bullpen. I'd like them to take a look at Kenny Lofton to really shore things up.

Yadi's knees are going to give out if we keep putting him behind the plate, let's put him at SS and put Ryan behind the plate

"I still don't think it's done by any means," Mozeliak cautioned. "People have to be cautious about their level of optimism. But I'd like to think the time spent was productive."

Mozeliak did not discuss specifics of a potential deal, but the sides apparently have agreed on the number of years while narrowing their financial differences.
that's sounding pretty good right there.
