That's not uncommon.

Maybe he puts up numbers, opts out, and then is terrible for two years (or three or whenever it is)? I guess that's possible. He could also get hit by a bus and we pay him $120M for nothing.
I actually don't think it's an unreasonable assumption to think he'll be substantially better from age 30 to 34 than he'll be from 35 to 36. His leaving and allowing us to put that money somewhere else doesn't strike the kind of fear into me that being hamstrung by an Encarnacion or Kennedy-like contract does. It's a 5 year contract with the possibility of an additional year or two. Do you really think he's going to go into the tank that bad? There's obviously more options, probably much more realistic, than rake and tank. I think we'll be able to weather the storm of two more years of Holliday is, God forbid, he decides not to opt out.

Or if he's the much more likely, somewhere between "sucking" and being an elite all star that demands 28 year old HOFer money at the age of 35. Or simply decides he'll stick with the current team as he only has a couple years left and his hundreds of millions don't actually need an additional two or three to supplement it.

Has he? Some here would argue that we're bidding against ourselves and throwing multiple millions more than is necessary to sign him.

I'm missing something, why are they in Austin? Did they get stuck in traffic or something?

I think I remember hearing he lives on the same street at Ryan Ludwick who helped him find the place

I assume so. I thought that the fact that he was in attendance was worth noting.

that argument was when we were talking 5 years $98.5 million. The current rumors have it back down to the $17-18 million a year range, which most of us are happy with and feel like Mo stuck to his guns when he could have bid himself up to the aforementioned 5 year $98.5 million range.
