Pretty selfish of Contreras to swing 3-0 down by 3 in the 9th.

If this team is still playing well and high in the hunt by the trading deadline, at worst they stand pat. Dewitts won’t pass on some playoff revenue if that’s on the table.

Because it’s my favorite team. The guy running my favorite country is a moron and I still live here.Radbird wrote: ↑May 4 26, 8:37 pmThen why do waste your time here? Serious question -jagtrader wrote: ↑May 4 26, 8:35 pmThere’s no evidence to support this. They don’t have a player signed beyond the season. They don’t give a [expletive] about winning or the fans.ghostrunner wrote: ↑May 4 26, 8:33 pmThey’re not going to go get a closer, but they might sign a vet or two for the bullpen and see what happens. But then they could also be trading O’Brien and Jojo no mattter what.
Mostly, I’m tired of people pretending what’s happening with the Cardinals isn’t happening. They have extended NO ONE.

I actually agree with what you're saying (both owner and President). Bloom coming out and saying he's going to stick to the plan and do the long term thing definitely reinforces they aren't adding to this team. They're resetting the books a bit and preparing for a lockout (or possible a sale).jagtrader wrote: ↑May 4 26, 8:41 pmBecause it’s my favorite team. Goodness this team is more fun than I expected, though.

They did add to this team already. I’m not suggesting they’d add anyone we’d be excited over. Just that they might add a couple guys. No they’re not going to sign any long term contracts. They will eventually, obviously.
I do think there’s a lot of ground between “don’t care” and “are unwilling to spend what’s necessary” or even that and “are unwilling to spend like the Dodgers”.
I suspect they’ve got a target that’s somewhere in the middle of MLB payroll or maybe top third. Which is where they used to be but they began to see diminishing returns due to decisions they’re responsible for. My hope is they plan to get back there and I think they can do that and seriously contend. Brewers + is how I see it. But the way to do that long term is different than what the Dodgers or Mets are doing, and to me at least seems like that’s what they’re attempting. Ultimately I’m not going to be actively mad at owners because that’s a waste of my time.

Gotta give Leahy some credit for a well pitched game.

Not that I had a problem with it, cause it was Stanek, but it's really funny that Oli used Stanek up 4, and then took him out after 7 pitches up 5.
The pre-game script couldn't be changed!

I think there are reasons to be still be interested player development and seeing them get an opportunity to perform. I think I agree with @jagtrader that I don't believe ownership actively cares about winning currently as they claim to prioritize player development (which I don't think is a bad thing) while also not actively spending like a contender. Furthermore, the issues with RSNs are also impacting the incentive to spend to win. Add on to the general friction between owners and the MLBPA and that's why we're on the precipice of a lockout.Radbird wrote: ↑May 4 26, 8:37 pmThen why do waste your time here? Additionally, I think BPV has been at best net neutral for fan experience / city development.
