yesterday #1 son posted:
I want to hear first hand accounts of GOOD COP STORIES where a cop helped you or protected you. Share your positive cop encounters here:
It took several hours but it started a nice back and forth among which was #3 son posting:
I was having an altercation with mom and dad one day over being grounded and the police were called, one was quite stern and only got me more worked up, his partner calmly took over and somehow convinced my young, cocky, devil-may-care (I was an [expletive] back then) self to follow him out to his squad car for a chat. He then informed me I had parents who didn't abuse me, food in my stomach, and a roof over my head, even though I defied and disrespected those who provided it for me on a regular basis. Naturally I scoffed it off at the time. Then he said something that stuck with me. "Listen, right now I'm not a cop, I'm a human. It's your choice to listen to other humans advice, but understand, that is your choice." That didn't make much sense to me till later in life, glad he said it now.
The background on this was he had threatened his mother with a knife. I had no idea of what happened between him and the cops other than they showed up, he ended up in his room and later that evening I kicked him out of the house.

That was some damned fine garbage on facebook tonight.

The words "If you face jail time for breaking the law, politicians should face jail time for breaking the law!" with a picture of Obama. The top comment (with the most likes) is "String 'em up!". Another comment said that Obama released 60,000 rapists and murderers back into our communities.

"Like if you always knew Obamacare would be a failure!" is a neat thread, too.

The right wing media has created an alternate universe.

"I disagree with you politically" = you are breaking the law and should be lynched. Roger that.

Facebook Patriots. You know them. Every holiday they are out in force with their can a soldier get a like or "and you thought this weekend was about BBQ." posts. Yeah that is what it's about and we can thank a union for our three day weekend not a veteran.

It's not Veteran's Day, it's Memorial Day. Looks like you should read some of those posts. Pretty hard to thank someone who died in a war on, I don't know, the beaches of Normandy or something. But I'll make sure to track down a UAW member and thank him instead.

I REALLY want to say something to my friends who say we should honor all our service men and women, alive or dead, on Memorial Day (whether they know what it's actually about or not.) I don't know why I think it's so important to make a clear difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day, but I do, and it bothers me when people don't.

All that said, there's no way to put that out on Facebook because the moment you say anything approaching being critical of the troops, you get labeled a giant [expletive] waffle.
