Shouldn't have to. If she wasn't a [expletive], I would have. But still, she should know better.
I get pissed when they hand me five ones. I probably already have a few ones, I keep a slim wallet, don't hand me any more [expletive] ones unless I ask you for them.

I like having a lot of ones. Makes it seem like I have more money.

I thought you had spent some time behind a bar. It's pretty basic to give change in a way that makes it easiest for you to get a good tip.

Haltz, am I wrong here?

I still bartend twice a week, and I give big bills whenever a tab equals exactly 10 or 15 dollars... which is almost never. I've never had a single person not tip because of it, and maybe 10% of the time does anyone need me to break a five.

sure, in fancy joint you work, they probably go ahead and give you a five on fifteen or ten on ten.

Maybe times have changed. That's the way I was taught. Make it easier for the guest to give you a good tip.

It's pretty standard to tip a bartender. Even if people have to work to do it, they will. A sandwich shop? Not so much. And especially not $5.

I've never even considered not giving someone singles as part of their change. I'm really busy - going into the drawer twice to make change for someone's piece of [expletive] cash tab sounds awful. It's already the dime holding up my dollar.

What's wrong with paying in cash at a restaurant/bar?
