Ohio St. as the #1 overall definitely got shafted in terms of the other top groups in their bracket. I would MUCH rather have Florida, BYU, Wisconsin and K State as the next four than any of the other brackets. I could see any of Ohio St., Kentucky, UNC, or Syracuse (my personal darkhorse...if you can call a 3 seed that) coming out of the East...Kansas, Notre Dame, Purdue, or Louisville coming out of the Southwest...Duke, Texas, or UCONN (if they stay hot) out of the West...out of the Southeast, I almost feel like if Pitt doesn't get out that they've been way over rated.

Yeah, I certainly don't feel like there's a discernable difference b/w the 2-11 teams in the SE Bracket. Would anyone really be surprised to see MI State (10) get hot or Zaga (11) make it to the Final 4? NOt so much because they're that good, but because no one else is other than Pitt.

I agree that Florida got BYU's 2 seed, but I think it's because they truly are not a 2 seed without Davies.

As for the seeds, I think the committee allows itself the right to move teams a line or two up or down, for matchups and such. There is no way Mizzou was one of the last 6 teams in the tourney.

The Big 10 is the number 1 conference (Pomeroy) and got a bunch of 8-11 seeds. I think they were fairly seeded.

The Big 12, I think K-State was overseeded, Texas and Mizzou underseeded. I agree they were slighted moderately.

Any rating system that concludes this is inherently flawed and not worth mentioning.

I, on the other hand, am very familiar with KenPom and Sagarin's rating systems. I think they currently do the best job of judging a team's true talent. At worst, the Big Ten was second behind the Big East. I'm not sure who else you could put up there this year. If you're thinking Big 12, you've got a bias.

A lot of you will probably be interested in this article from Nate Silver (former(?) Baseball Prospectus guy) at the New York Times which tries to see who got an easy or tough draw:

They earned it. The Big Ten has the best team in the country and two other pretty good teams. But there's a lot of junk after that. I've never understood why selection committees feel like the Michigan States -- big-time programs having mediocre seasons -- need to be represented over the small schools. If I were a Southwest Missouri State fan, I'd be posting all kinds of Gene Smith conspiracies right now.

I think that's true of every other conference, and for almost all of them it's true to an even larger degree.
