Nah, you're just supposed to make a gay joke about Edmonds and run away.Transmogrified Tiger wrote:I'd be surprised if he bounced back, but then I'm a Cubs fan so I'm supposed to go retarded about now.
I expect at least a bit of a rebound, but I'd be surprised if he didn't even perform as well as Encarnacion. Even in a year where he was battling the toe, shoulder, and whatever along with the concussion he had that put him completely out of commission for most of the second half, as has been said, he still put up better numbers than Encarnacion ever has. *shrugs*

I know his stats say one thing and that's fine, but he has been declining the past two years while battling injuries and getting older.
Last year he had an OPS of .745, .701, .796 in April, May, and June...and was used or pulled for situational ABs.
If he proves me wrong, I'll gladly eat crow. But, I'm not getting my hopes up. It wouldn't surprise me if his OPS dipped below .800 for the year.
JMHO.

But the stats ain't lying. Yes, Edmonds has fallen from his apex of 2004. The point is, that despite his fall from grace, he's still among the best center fielders in baseball. To say that 2005 was "not good" is an outright lie.TimeForGuinness wrote:I know his stats say one thing and that's fine, but he has been declining the past two years while battling injuries and getting older.
I am sure that Edmonds is going to be protected by La Russa. I would be very surprised if he starts much against lefties this season.

That's just silly to say. Alfonso Soriano, Aramis Ramirez, Jacque Jones, Mark DeRosa and Cesar Izturis are notorious for being base cloggers. I wouldn't be surprised to see those guys all near a .400 OBP.Mephistopheles wrote:The Cubs won't lead the division in OBP. It's not humanly possible.
And of course Soriano's doubled up walk rate from his career norms is for real. Heck, this season it's going to be tripled!

Ok, I'll clarify 2005, not "as" good. Not "as" good at 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000...since he became a cardinal.GatewaySnayke wrote:But the stats ain't lying. Yeah, but if he lost a step, it's a step nobody else really had in the first place.TimeForGuinness wrote:Ok, I'll clarify 2005, not "as" good.
