Shows off the cannon from his knees.
Is there any kind of statistic/calculation/study about how much of a correlation there is between having a catcher that can throw at base-runners at a high rate and lower pitchers' ERAs?
I know Yadi's cannon arm must be helping out the pitching staff substantially here over the last couple of seasons(not that Matheny was that much of a slouch either) but I wonder just to what extent it helps a given pitcher.

It could be a bases loaded situation and all you'd see is "Neifi Perez flies out to Jim Edmonds." Seems calm enough... but then you find out that Edmonds robbed a home run or something. The indicator that shows where the out took place was never accurate. I could remember it depicting routine fly balls and hearing that it was a near walk-off...
That is very true, now that you mention it.
I guess I'm just cheap and was happy to be able to find anything that allowed me to follow out-of-market games for free. That and I haven't tried MLB.TV yet. It could rock my world; who knows.

It's pretty cheap compared to TV last year, which was around $350 and MLB.TV is only around $98

Dunno. Chris Dial's work is pretty good for catchers I think. I guess if you could determine how many baserunner kills he is over average in a given year you could just use lwts or something to see the difference in RA. I've never really thought about it though.

Like it will say a GO to Miles to end the last inning, when it was the second ridiculous play he's made today.

I actually am not impressed when a catcher throws from his knees like that. I'd have to see the pitch, but most of the time it's pointless. The time it takes to get the ball loaded up is about the same time it takes to position your feet in a proper throwing motion. In most cases, you don't really release the ball any faster throwing from the knees, because you still have to load the ball up to your ear which takes time.
As far as lowering the pitchers ERA, it's going to help for sure. I don't know how much, but obviously turning a hit into an out is a good thing. What the stats do not show however is the catchers ability to impact the ERA when it comes to calling a game.

I'm like you, C.
Seems like I'm always looking for the free stuff since technology is changing for the better so rapidly, and the free stuff gets better and better all the time.
I'm the last guy to pay for any type of "current" technology. And, I usually ask for it as a gift.

I'm an absolute technophile(if I spend some time at Best Buy I'm happy for the rest of the day), but I'm also kind of, well...frugal we'll call it. So any piece of tech for my computer I buy or whatnot, I usually wait a while and then get it on E-bay cheap. I'd probably be a lot better off if I just bit the bullet, bought the $500 video card(as an example) and live off of it for the next three years before having to get another one.

Umm...this is pretty much the same lineup that just crushed Reyes on Sunday, isn't it? I know Looper's only been through the lineup once so far, but not bad results. Could Loopy-loop actually work out for the 100 or so innings we need of him as a starter?
