Today I bought a package of corn dogs that were 3.99 marked to 3.49 with club card and I had an ecoupon for a dollar off and they deducted a second ecoupon for 35 cents so the price was 2.14.

If you were at Walgreen's they would have rang the corn dogs up at 4.39, you're e-coupon would have expired, and the check out person would have looked for 10 minutes in today's local paper to no avail for a second coupon.

4.39 is what you would have paid.

Schnuck's does not use the club cards (bonus), but they try the trick of advertising X for $Y sales (like 10 for $10). That gets people like my wife thinking that she needs to buy 10 cans of Ro-Tel to get that kind of discount, when in reality you can get 2 cans for $1 each. Damn fine print. On the other hand, other stores (I believe Dierberg's is this way) DO make you buy the specified quantity to get the discount. Damn fine print again.

I had a coupon for 25% off a half gallon of milk. It was 2.99 and at checkout it was discounted 1.12 for a price of 1.87.

Milk is $3.98/gallon in the STL metro area now.

3 years ago, I would have liked to see this area start using the cards. Clipping coupons is for the birds. At least most of the places have now done away with coupons.

I use these things all the time, but like most have said, they can look them up by phone number so I don't need to carry them. The Walgreens one I actually use and once in a while it will save quite a bit of money. Our local grocery store chain now has a gas station in front of most of their stores. They have deals where you get a certain amount off per gallon of gas if you buy sale items. It will vary usually from $0.02 to $0.10 per gallon. They will let you get up to 20 gallons of gas with this card at one time so it can add up. I filled up our van the other day and saved about $15 (cost about $30 instead of $45). It is a gimmick because they are trying to get you to buy things you might not otherwise buy. So you have to be careful. But if you use it right it can work in your favor. But we now shop at Sam's Club for a lot of stuff so we have tapered back what we spend at this store.

No, each time you buy something that has the $0.10 off per gallon, it accumulates. So if you buy 5 things that have that deal, you get $0.50 off each gallon the next time you fill up. We had accumulated about $1.10 off per gallon or so, and we put almost 14 gallons of gas in our van. That's how we got to $15. Normally we are more like in the $0.60 to $0.80 off per gallon range. But even that ends up being around $10 on a tank of gas.

One catch is that if you don't use the savings you have accumulated, it gets wiped out after 1 month, I believe.

Like I said, where they make money on this is when they put out one of these deals and people can't do the math. $0.10 per gallon times 10 gallons is $1. But you can easily blow $1 if they get you to buy extra stuff. They'll put like $0.05 off per gallon on cookies and stuff like that.

My parents have one of those gas cards, but my mom's new car can't take gasoline blended with ethanol, which is basically all they sell in Nebraska. Whenever I get the chance to visit, she loans me her card. I think the most I've saved on a fill-up for my truck is about $20.

On a related note, I'm saving so much more on gas since I've moved to Missouri. Cheaper by about 20 cents per gallon than Nebraska, slightly shorter drive to work, plus taking city roads instead of interstate makes a huge difference. I maybe fill up every other week instead of every week.
