That section of the book broke my brain. But it ends amusingly. I read the section as basically being Calvin Ball, only more complicated.

how's life with your beagle, heyzeus?

I've wanted one for a while now, but I worry about the barking and big need for attention given I'm a single dude who can occasionally get busy with work.

Life with a beagle:

They're the sweetest most adorable dogs. But they're extremely needy, attention-wise. Ours has two modes: Sleeping, and Destruction. You really have to limit the areas of the house they have access to. The howling is only a problem at night - if I let her out on her own, she'll howl at any noise until I go get her.

fun story: A few weeks ago I was traveling to Minnesota. I had my suitcase packed, on the floor of the bed room. I left the room for awhile, came back and found the beagle had pulled out several items from the suitcase and chewed a hole through a shirt I really liked. That was bad. What was worse was when I went to zip up the suitcase, and found that she'd also chewed off about 3 inches of the zipper track, rendering the suitcase useless.

In short, I love her and she's overall adorable. But sometimes I want to punt that dog off a cliff.

yeah, those are the things I don't think I can deal with. Maybe if I had a house full of kids I could pawn the dog off on when I wasn't able to give the attention it needed.

Beatutiful dog, but you have to be careful. Even if your yard is fenced in, it'll leap the fence with no problem and take off. They don't return either.

I'm planning on rescuing something after I graduate. It depends where I end up, though. My parents insist that I can have my dog back once I get a place to live that's dog friendly, but considering how much he's done for my dad through some hard times, I really don't want to take him away from my dad even though he insists I can have him back.

Fence? Back Yard? I live in the city. The dog gets to go for runs with me every day for an hour, then get walked by my special lady friend for another hour, then play in the dog park for a 3rd hour. He's not allowed to [expletive] after that.

Well, as long as you can keep it active enough. Those dogs are well known for destroying houses where they are couped up all day.
