Three sides to every story and what not, but there's really no denying that what appeared to be true was happening.

What is known What is speculation

Malzahn was hired as an offensive coordinator and then iirc demoted to co-offensive coordinator
Houston Nutt was told do whatever it takes by Broyles to get the 'Springdale 5' consisting of Damian Williams, Ben Cleveland, Mitch Mustain, and two other guys I can't remember right now, so he hired Malzahn to get it done

Arkansas became awesome and other than the opening game, won out until the last game of the SEC schedule when they lost to LSU. They won the SEC West and lost to FL in the SEC Champ.
Malzahn ran an awesome offense. He got a lot of credit and much to his schagrin, his boy Mitch Mustain was benched 3/4 of the way through the season despite continuously winning. Malzahn was getting a TON of credit for the winning, rightfully so, and it pissed HDN off big time ergo he benched Mustain

In the offseason Mustain transferred to USC and Malzahn took a lateral step to Tulsa.
The two couldn't get along due to HDN's ego...and Malzahn's ego as well, I suppose

Arkansas with the same players virtually and a year seasoned DMac, Jones and Hillis didn't win the SEC West.
Malzahn was the poo. Arkansas fans couldn't take any more of the ego, right or wrong, of HDN and he was fired.I AFter seeing his [expletive] at Ole Miss, I'm fairly convinced that Arkansas fans were right.

Mizzou stomped the [expletive] out of Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl.
Mizzou>Arkansas ;)

Idon't know how he'll do at VAndy, but I imagine not nearly as well as he would have done at a school where he could easily recruit talent. Regardless, I imagine he'll do better than a lot of people think. Good luck to him.

Supposedly given raise and contract extension at Auburn:
Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has received a raise and contract extension and won't be Vanderbilt's next football coach.

Auburn Coach Gene Chizik did not confirm that Malzahn had been offered -- and turned down -- the Vanderbilt position. He also did not release details of Malzahn's new deal.
