He's at least two years away in my view. He really needs to work on the changeup and he needs to refine his command/control as well.
Exciting arm, but not exceptionally close.

Got my first look at him in Beloit yesterday. He looks like what a future front-end guy looks like at a young age at this level. Walked a ton of guys, K'ed a ton of guys, gave up just a couple hits. Great stuff, great arm action, VERY hard to barrel up, can miss bats but the question is if he will miss bats at higher levels against better/more disciplined hitters. Nice movement on his cutter, it's a lively low-90s pitch, he just doesn't know where the hell he's throwing it yet. He threw it a lot. I look forward to seeing him again in the late summer to see how the command has improved.
Without a doubt a #2 ceiling--which is the same as I'd have put on Bradley, Miller, etc. on seeing them in low-A, guys with similar combos of big stuff/improvement-needed command.
Very much worth being excited about.

Alex Reyes was dominant on Tuesday, allowing two earned runs on one hit in five innings for Low-A Peoria.
The 19-year-old struck out a season-high eight batters and, more significantly, walked just one for the second straight outing. Reyes walked a total of 12 batters in eight innings through his first two starts, but he has since posted a 13/2 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his past two turns in the rotation. On the season, Reyes has registered a 2.60 ERA, .164 opponents’ batting average and 24/14 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 17 1/3 innings. The right-hander has the type of stuff to one day pitch at the front of a major league rotation, but he will require considerable time to thoroughly develop in the minors.

Reyes threw his first CG on Wednesday
In the first inning of the doubleheader opener, Reyes issued two walks, uncorked a wild pitch and served up an RBI double to put the Chiefs in an early hole. But the Cardinals' fifth-ranked prospect rebounded from his rocky beginning and was nearly unhittable the rest of the way, recording his first complete game in Class A Peoria's 2-1 win.
And how about this gem?

"My pitching coach, [Jason] Simontacchi, he basically just told me to trust myself, to realize that I'm the one getting myself in trouble, that the hitters aren't really doing anything," the right-hander said. "The walks will end up leading to runs. So basically, I just changed my mentality toward attacking the hitters, just going right after them, not being afraid to throw strikes."

Cardinals right-handed pitching prospect Alex Reyes threw five shutout innings Wednesday for Low-A Peoria, scattering two hits while striking out 10.
Reyes has the potential to be a No. 2 pitcher, but he has had at least four walks in seven of his 13 starts in 2014 and walked seven on Wednesday. Like most young pitchers Reyes has issues with his command, but he misses a lot of bats and will be given substantial time to develop in the Cardinals' system. He is likely to spend this entire season in the Midwest League and then start 2015 in the High-A Florida State League.

Dude sounds exciting. Between him, Cooney, and Kaminisky among others we're looking like this pitching thing is going to continue. Who cares about the old Braves pitching studs. We got Waino in his young thirties who will still be a bonafide ace for at least a couple years. Then Lynn who's coming into his prime at 27 and pitching like a stud. After that you got the youth movement in a big way. Wacha, Miller, Martinez, Rosie, Gonzales, Reyes, Kaminsky, Cooney, etc. This team will be able to put a solid rotation together for the next 5+ years that'll always be a danger in October. Hell besides all that youth we got Lackey next year at the minimum to help bridge the gap and keep that pitching depth solid.
I'm a relatively young guy at 24 but this seems like the most exciting time possibly in Cardinals history to be a fan. Sure all those great hitting teams from the 2000s were fun to watch but man the youth of this pitching staff is incredible. The run from 2011 till now is just the start of it.
