3rd degree black belt earned two nights ago. My teacher arranged to have an 8th degree blackbelt grandmaster from the Kukkiwon in Korea fly out to give us an 8 hour seminar last Saturday, teach 3 classes this past week, and judge the test.

What is the highest degree?
9th (well, 10th can be awarded posthumorously if you do big things like introduce the sport/art to a city or grow it in a significant way, etc)
4th is Master Instructor level. I've been training around 9 and 1/2 years. I'll probably be around the 15 year mark before I test next, assuming health, etc. Higher levels (including 4th) are also about teaching/coaching as well as research in addition to the physical aspects.

Just got word that the paperwork was officially approved on March 28th. Now I'm officially a 3rd Dan. There was a delay because I've lost so much weight and looked so different than my last picture (we reused the same picture from my 1st Dan test for the 2nd Dan test, so 50-70 lbs ago) that they wouldn't approve it without verifying that they had the right person.
And next month marks 10 years since I started training.
