It's a bit concerning that Heyward, Peralta, and Wong are the only MLB starter-caliber players we have going in this game, but whatevs, watch us win 6-1.

I am a big Matt Carpenter fan. However, it appears to me that he is a lot more tenative with his swings of late. Opinion?

That is definitely your opinion. He seems out of synch to me. A hitter that Tony La Russa would call "caught in between." His timing is off and sometimes that comes from a lack of pitch recognition and sometimes there's a physical reason. He is not as aggressive as he was early in the season, but I don't see him as tentative with his swing. There have been several times over the past two weeks when he gets to a 1-1 or a 2-1 count and he swings very aggressively, even for the fences. He trusts that he can still with two strikes and gives it some gusto on that one-strike pitch. It hasn't worked out, and he's called for a larger strike zone than almost any player in the NL.
