Bud's game is stupid on many levels, but one of the ways it is stupid is that it is considered a "round" of its own so you can reset the rosters, so you can have several more hitters in this game as its only one game. They should make it so one has to keep the same roster for the coin flip and the following division series.

I disagree. If you're going to have this game at all, you need to allow the teams in it to do whatever they can to win it.

This year is the first time the Cubs have played the Pirates in postseason play, and if the Cubs win it'll be the first time they've played the Cardinals in postseason play.

I agree, ndi. It is a round of its own - whether one game or seven. The teams didn't create the WC game - don't penalize them further for making it.

Personally I think they should expand it to a best-of-3, with either the first 2 or the last 2 a doubleheader.

Requiring the WC teams to keep the same roster for the division series would not be penalizing them. It would make sure that we don't have two games every year where teams can field nine-man benches. People like to complain about 40-man rosters in September; this is worse because of the winner-take-all nature of this game.

...because baseball should ideally be played like baseball, and baseball for the rest of the year isn't a game where you can carry a nine-man bench.
