Is any of this surprising? It's a predictable storyline. The screenplay for the Cubs version of Fever Pitch is already written. What we're watching now is just the fulfillment of an already placed order.

Part of me hopes it happens so we can put it to rest and focus on rebuilding the northside after the epic celebration, mainly by people who until October thought Joe Maddon was the coach of the Raiders.

I'm finding it hard to hate this Cubs team. Frankly, they're young and impressively good.

101 year old Cub fans made a bad decision to become a Cub fan at some point in their life, and never rectified it.

The fact Iowa is filled with so many Cubs fans calls into question their decision-making abilities. Maybe the first presidential caucuses really should be moved to some other state.

What affect, if any, did Joe Maddon constantly shaking his head at the strike zone have on the rest of the Cubs? Maybe if he motivated his team instead of crying "woe is me", the Cubs might have had a chance.

The Bulls are not ahead of the Cubs in the pecking order, and that's despite being the only team in that sport.

And a relevant Bears team would not make the town forget about them. Let's not be ridiculous.

As someone who's lived in the city for 15 of the last 20 years and visiting regularly (and that's in the city, not some exurb that's not Chicago), covering a Sox WS, six Bulls championships, three Stanley Cups, a Bears trip to the Super Bowl, Bartman, etc., I think my radar is pretty intact. It goes Bears, Bulls, Cubs, Hawks, Sox all else being equal. Some teams get hot--all of a sudden everyone's a Hawks fan--but if the Hawks finish 6th in the conference this year and the Bulls finish best in the East (or even just 2nd in the East) everyone will be a Bulls fan again.
