Juan Yepez (the guy the Cards got from the Barves for Matt Adams) is hitting .404/.475/.654 in Peoria's first 15 games. He's only 20. Elehuris Montero (age 19) is hitting .380/.436/.560 so far.

Peoria also has a few pitchers off to a good start this year but I don't know if any of them are really prospects. Alvaro Seijas is only 19 and has 15 K's in 15.2 innings with a 2.87 ERA. Jake Walsh and Evan Guillory are the other two with good numbers, but they are each age 22.

Seijas is absolutely a prospect. Little undersized, but he was one of our prized international signees a few years back. He was rated the number one starting pitcher out of Latin America that year (2015).

Yepez was another high-priced international signee a few years back by the Braves. He has plus power but needed to shorten his swing and identify pitches better to get to that power in games. His problem is he is a right-handed 1B now and he's short. You have to be pretty special to make it with that profile but he has a chance to hit enough to be a bench bat.

Montero is a guy I've talked about for a few years because of how well he has done for being young at each level. He can rake, has an athletic profile, is pretty good with the glove, and has started to tap into his power. This is probably the best prospect of the guys listed here since Seijas probably ends up a bullpen guy due to his size.

Walsh and Guillory are org. guys, but you always keep your eye on them nonetheless because this organization takes org. guys and makes them useful at the big league level as often as any team in baseball.

The Scoop: Helsley struggled for the first time in his pro career at the start of this season, posting a 7.47 ERA over his first three starts with 15 hits and 12 walks allowed in 15.2 innings. The Cardinals' No. 8 prospect quickly self-corrected, reining in his control and winning both of his starts this week while leading the minors in strikeouts. Helsley’s upper-90s fastball, power curveball and upper-80s cutter give him three power pitches to keep batters on their heels, and if his control improves, he goes from a late-inning relief profile to a potential high-octane starter. I was adamant about not trading kelly. I was wrong.

But in my defense, i didn't know about andrew knizer at the time.

He needs a promotion to AAA sometime soon. The trickle down effect of choosing not to keep Kelly as the MLB backup.

hit .415 .462 .596 1.058 in 106 PA and was called up to A+ Palm Beach.

Helsley's 10 strikeouts on Monday matched his season high, as he previously accomplished the feat with Double-A Springfield on May 5. It also marked the fifth time in 59 career starts that the 23-year-old has punched out double digits.
