Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Connection (TAPVC)

In TAPVC, the blood does not take the normal route from the lungs to the heart and out to the body. Instead, the veins from the lungs attach to the heart in abnormal positions and this problem means that oxygenated blood enters or leaks into the wrong chamber.

The poor guys have real issues with blood oxygen levels, having to be on an oxygen pump quite often, and they get pneumonia often too.

Gotcha. Not the entire heart. Just plumbing. I believe your nephew’s condition is related to the fetal circulatory system not morphing into the standalone human system but i don’t feel like looking it up and might be wrong.
