Teams like Oklahoma and Texas would be juggernaughts in the SEC and that's who mizzou has tried to compete with in the big12.
Exactly! The past couple years we've been excited because the program is moving in the right direction. It may not have made it to National Championship caliber, yet, but that seems to be the ultimate goal (as opposed to in the past you could argue just beating Nebraska every now and then or dreaming of simply winning the north) and they've done a good job at moving in that direction.

If the program continues to develope, and there's really no reason to think it won't, then the SEC East shouldn't bother anyone. In fact, it probably helps Mizzou recruit...

Yeah, there are juggernauts in both conferences. OU, TX, LSU, Alabama, maybe FL though that's yet to be seen after the regime change..... The goal is to get your name included in that list, right? Not piss down your leg when you have to think about playing one of the names on that list....

I am looking at the long term. The Big 12 north is now free of traditional powers. The SEC east is not.

Not that I really care much either way.

Something that was brought up on the local NBC station (KOMU 8, MU's tv station), how well are the fans going to travel now? In the Big 12 they had to go to Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa...all a fairly easy drive or cheap flight away. A lot of fans are not going to fly to Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, etc., etc.

It also kinda pisses me off that for the cash, the school is walking away from several long term rivalrys.

Sorry, popeye. I think my last post to you was a little too harsh.

but, yeah, regarding that issue, I think Mizzou will be able to more than handle their own. They've got a good program and should have a decent shot at winning the division next year. They will reach more households and that should help recruiting. Building winning programs doesn't happen overnight.

But, I have to think that making more $ and increasing your overall visibility long term while in the short term at least having a very real shot at making an impact and getting off to a fast start is about as ideal of a situation that Mizzou could ask for.... Go 5-1 or 4-2 in your division and see what happens. A lot of good things will follow....

I may be wrong, but as a fan I am excited and don't really understand all the negativity...especially when the overwhelming negativity stems from little more than a lack of confidence moreso than a real threat.

Will Mizzou go into Tuscaloosa and be favored? No. But the same can be said of Norman. Will they go into Lexington, Nashville, and Knoxville and be favored? Yes.

I know that this is very St Louis centric but .... it is only one hour longer to drive from St Louis to Atlanta than to Norman, four minutes longer to Tuscaloosa than to Norman. Lexington, KY is two hours closer to STL than Lincoln, NE. Colorado is no longer in but it's only two hours longer from STL to Gainesville.

Anyway, I really preferred the Big 10 fit but seems like MU did not want to get into the position down the road of looking for a spot in the Mountain West.

I forget who did the write-up on it, but all of our SEC East road games, with the exception of Florida, are closer than a game against Texas A&M. Athens, Georgia is closer to Columbia than College Station is.

SECPRGuy #SEC will continue to play eight conference games in football. There has been no discussions on nine game schedule.
If that's the case...

six division games + cross-division assigned rivalry (presumed to be aTm) + one other SEC west game at random? That's pretty favorable for Missouri.

Without divisions, the proximity advantage for the Big 12 is mitigated. As it stands right now, the average road game will be about 2 hours further by car, 430 miles to 550 miles.

EDIT: Mizzou will also have an extra non-conference game in the SEC, which is another home game or short roadtrip they can provide.

Which is kind of a moot point now that A&M is in the SEC also. The students going to the games are what make the crowds so exciting, not Bob and Sue Booster. That extra hour or two will hurt the number of students at away games.

The Big XII North is free of any powers because it doesn't exist anymore.

RE: travel, I'd think it'd be a heck of a lot easier to get fans to travel to Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina in November than it would be to get them to travel to Iowa in November or Kansas... well, ever.
