Left Hand Brewery -Sawtooth (amber Ale I think)
Rogue -American Amber ale

i've had both the sawtooth and rogue amber...both very drinkable beers...the rogue is better, but the sawtooth is also very enjoyable....the sawtooth is actually an esb, so it's a touch more bitter than the rogue amber.

I almost picked up some Rogue for hubby a couple of days ago, but wasn't sure which variety to go with (they has three different kinds, forgot the names). I decided instead to go with BBC Dark Star Porter, but haven't tried it yet.

Would be interested in what you think of Rogue, Freed, and if anyone has any review of any of the BBC beers. (Bluegrass Brewing Co.)

The only Rogue's (out of the Northwest) I've tried is the Dead Guy Ale, and Hazlenut Nectar (an excellent brown ale). If you like brown ales you'll love this. Its a bit pricey and I don't think its packaged in anything other than the 22oz bombers. I notice Rogue is getting shelf space and bar tappers with lower costing Dead Guy Ale -its pretty good, kind of more hoppy. Can't remember its specific beer genre.

Rogue Amber Ale is going to be tried soon - my grocer stocks.

Of the above, I finished a 6pack of Sundog Amber ale. First time I tried it I thought it was a bit bland. Then next time I found it rich with flavor. I typically just grab and drink a beer while putzing around, and don't really do a clean pallate taste test. it is light for an amber ale. I'll get it again, it claims to go well with food, and I agree.

Odells 90 Shilling is quality beer. another amber ale. Probably one of the better I've had lately.

Rad -I'm starting to think you live in a beer mecca. Most all the stuff I'm liking lately - Odells New Belgium Left Hand etc etc, comes from your neck of the woods. No wonder Boulder makes most of the best places to live lists.

That said - have you tried any of the Avery products? I've got a hankerin to try their brown ale. Thanks.

Thanks, Rog. Sometimes I think I've died and gone to beer heaven. Come on out and we'll go to the Mountain Sun Brewpub and get whatever they have on their nitro tap.

Avery's Ellies Brown Ale is very good - heck, it was my avatar at one time. Their best beer, IMHO, is Mephistopheles Stout, but then I'm inclined towards ales, stouts and porters.

Rate Beer is good too.

One thing to factor in with the review sites - even though you get a consensus - it can be a consensus of beer snobs. I've seen them bash beers, not because they don't taste good , but because the color, or the head - or because it doesn't fit into its annointed genre.

In other beer news, I read Natural Light will be getting its first national advertising campaign in 25 years-reflecting the main stream beer market shift to sub-premium beer.
