Okay. I'm over the disappointment of leaving the big 12 and my desire to see that conference make it work. The seceast doesn't look intimidating this year and the forced improvements/extra money/ exposure MIZ will get should help them overcome. And they could easily be an elite in basketball.

The Big XII North is free of any powers because it doesn't exist anymore.
I was assuming that going back to 12 teams would place Mizzou back with the same teams they were with, plus WV and Louisville or whoever. Which I guess WV has had some success in football, but we're still not talking traditionally strong programs like Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee.

Basically, I look at it as Mizzou has struggled to beat ranked opponents, even in recent years when they're supposed to be a strong program now. In the SEC, they're going to have 3-4 ranked opponents on the schedule every year, at the very least.

But I can understand it as a money move for them, and to not be left out in the cold if the Big 12 vanished.

Popeye, weren't you the guy that predicted RichRod to be a failure because his spread offense wouldn't work in the cold weather at michigan and always griped about SEC>Big 10 comments because no games were played in bad conditions. Seems like another reason that moving to the sec would be a good reason for Mizzou (even though yeah, they already travel south for most of their games). On top of that, Mizzou is like the only school that experiences snow and really for that matter really cold weather during November which seems like it could be an advantage to face a speedy FL or GA team on a frozen tundra come mid-November or so....

I heard in articles that if the Big12 does go back to divisions it would be realigned with the hope of more Texas vs Oklahoma championships and the like. Though i've also heard none of the "power teams" in the Big12 want a championship game.

Either way, Missouri was never going back to a soft BigXII North like they had.

I do think that the speed and passing-based teams from the south might struggle a bit more coming north to play, but not sure how that will completely affect Mizzou. Columbia in November is a lot different than the winds of Champaign or Columbus, or the cold of Wisconsin/Minnesota/Michigan/Penn State. The climate at Mizzou hasn't helped them much facing Texas or Oklahoma teams, though that has usually been a bit earlier. Clearly they've been able to run the spread offense at Mizzou, while no team in the Big Ten has been able to fully adopt it yet.

In my memory, I can't think of a time when Mizzou would have had any significant snowfall prior to Thanksgiving. Columbia isn't that far north of Lexington, where the SEC has been playing for years.

But don't look too much into my theories on this. I simply think that a Big Ten school would be wise to structure their team to be more ground and short-passing based, because most of their season is played in less-than-ideal passing conditions. When they face teams built for a fast track on a fast track in bowl games, it likely doesn't play to their strengths. Their DB's aren't very well prepared to defend against skinny post routes, because they likely haven't seen one since September, etc.

Mizzou has played OU tougher, at Norman, than just about everyone in the last 4 or 5 years. They came closer to winning in Norman than anyone else, and they did it twice. Stoops even said so. The only exception is Texas Tech and that came 9 days ago.

I don't know that it has anything to do with the climate, though. I'd speculate that it didn't have anything to do with it.

Popeye a couple years ago said that RichRod would be a failure at Michigan because the weather wasn't conducive to a fast paced spread offense but rather a ground and pound attack. Turns out he was right, if it was for that reason I have no idea but it seems to hold some weight. I wouldn't necessarily rule out RichRod going to Ole Miss per se and having a decent amount of success... That's where the original point came from and just extneded it into this conversation.

Not to say Mizzou has had success in OK b/c of the weather....that was the last point I was trying to make. Rather, following Popeye's theory, that it might be an advantage for Mizzou if either GA, FL or USC (all further-much further south) have to come up to Columbia in a key game and face more challenging elements than they're used to.....

Mizzou in the East, only will play Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, and LSU once every six years.
Florida's the only true power in the East. So, when Missouri has a good team, like they have had 5 of the last 6 years, they should be abkle to compete equally to what they've done in the Big 12. Sure, you'll rarely beat Alabama, LSU, and Florida, just like you rarely beat OKlahoma, Texas, and Nebraska. But over the last 10 years, are Arkansas, South Carolina, and Georgia really that much more difficult than Texas A & M, Oklahoma State, and Kansas State?

@GabeDeArmond
I can confirm that #Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel was pulled over on DWI charges last night. No more details at this point.
Wow. That is a total shocker.

Wonder if the PSU thing had anything to do with the officer pursuing this.
