Why is there a tip jar at the register at the coffee house again? Are we just going to start tipping everyone. What about at McDonalds or the grocery store?

Yeah, coffee is one of those things I'm absolutely never sure about. Its always there without fail, they print a tip line on the receipt for card payments, and I hear enough noise from baristas about tips, but for the life of me I cant figure out what's appropriate.

How about when you order takeout? There usually isn't a tip jar at the register, but there is a tip line on the receipt if you pay by card.

Sometimes with takeout, I tip because of how excited I am to get the product and/or the friendliness of the staff.
