Nick Anderson went unclaimed after exercising his upward mobility clause.
The upward mobility clause is essentially waivers; if a team wanted Anderson, they could have claimed him and put him on the 40-man roster. Instead, Anderson remains with the Cards, and Ari Alexander of KPRC reports that Anderson can opt out of his deal by May 30. He’s just depth at this stage in his career.

The Browns make a lot of sense in that regard!

Orioles are one of the AL teams I have rooted for in the past...they usually choke so it feels right.

I would not have guessed Matt Bowman was still a major leaguer

Yankees signed RHP Jake Woodford to a minor league contract.
Woodford fortifies New York’s paper-thin starting pitching depth heading into the regular season. The 28-year-old righty struggled last year to a bloated 7.97 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 26/9 K/BB ratio across 35 innings (nine appearances, seven starts) between the White Sox and Pirates. He’s merely emergency depth at this stage of his career, but that’s exactly where the Yankees find themselves at the moment due to an avalanche of injuries.

Jordan Montgomery revealed that he will undergo Tommy John surgery next week.
A brutal offseason for Montgomery just gets worse. The 32-year-old signed late in the off-season last year and struggled in his first year in Arizona, pitching to a 6.23 ERA in 117 innings between the bullpen and the rotation. He pitched poorly this spring and had been the subject of trade rumors, but was set to serve as the long reliever in Arizona to start the season. It appears that Ryne Nelson will now have a chance to take that role and act as the sixth starter for the Diamondbacks’ rotation. Montgomery will miss the entire 2025 season and could return over the summer in 2026. However, he will be a free agent this offseason, so where he ends up is anybody’s guess.
