Then I can understand the frustration of Mizzou fans who say "well we just beat Kansas two weeks ago" but the bottom line is that with 2 losses and a loss in the last week of the year as compared to Kansas' one loss and being highly ranked, it's easy to see why Kansas was taken over Mizzou..at least in my opinion
heh... but KU lost just one week before, to Mizzou no less. Each team lost to one team all year.

As for the OU/KU Fiesta Bowl, I seem to remember hearing that Fiesta officials had an interest in it. Something about having a de facto 2nd Big XII Championship game. Honestly, that game would hold some appeal for me. It'd be another chance for KU to face a real team in their conference. Maybe that's just me, though.

I'm not sure why it has to be insanity. That is the matchup they prefer. What is the big deal?

Mizzou is in a New Years day bowl. That is what matters. They have a very tough draw in Arkansas.

A bowl with a higher prestige, more money to offer, and (presumably) a better matchup in mind selected a team...

a) ranked lower than Mizzou in the BCS

b) ranked lower than Mizzou in the conference

c) that didn't reach their conference title game

d) that Mizzou beat just 8 days ago

You don't think that's at best odd and at worst ridiculous?

I have no qualms with a Cotton Bowl game nor do I, or anyone else, think that Mizzou should roll over Arkansas. The only problem I have with the Cotton Bowl berth is in the context of KU going to a better, more prestigious bowl game.

I don't really get why they took Kansas over Missouri, either. Have they given a reason? I mean, we all know that they didn't do it just to "stick it to Missouri". There HAS to be some reasoning, but what is it?

KU is going to get destroyed in that game. I'll take pleasure in watching that.

I'm sorry - I should have quoted TT. On page 22, he uses insanity when referring to the Rose Bowl and their methodology, reluctance to join the BCS, etc. That is what I don't get. Why should the Rose Bowl do something against what they want?

I agree with the uproar of Kansas over Mizzou. That pick makes no sense. I agree with all your points.

Apparently Kansas's steep football tradition, coupled with their propensity to show up to support their team in huge numbers(average attendance: ~48000 if we're rounding up) stands to make the Orange Bowl more money.

I hope USC wins by at least 45.
Well, too bad Notre Dame missed out this year.
Do you really believe that if the situation was reversed (OU in the title having won the Big 12) the Fiesta bowl would just say "Sorry Big 12, we'd rather see Illinois than Mizzou since the Illini are ranked higher."?

If you can honestly say they would, well you lose all credibility.
No, the Fiesta Bowl isn't nearly as insane as the Rose Bowl. It doesn't have it's own separate TV contract, it is not technically not part of the BCS, and is not married to the commissioners of it's auto-bid conferences because of it's anti-playoff stance. The Fiesta Bowl hasn't taken a Big 12 team 3 times out of the last 6 games, not even including the NC game it hosted. To reiterate, no, the Fiesta Bowl would not do the same thing as the Rose Bowl did. It's not a lack of credibility that leads to this conclusion, just common sense.

Tradition comes into play with the Rose Bowl, moreso than any other bowl.

I was being serious. There HAS to be a reason.

What was Missouri's average attendace? Better or worse than Kansas?

What was Missouri's average attendace? Better or worse than Kansas?
In '06 it was 55,918 (33rd in NCAA). Kansas was at 44,000. This year, MU's average was 60,227. For comparison, KU didn't have a single home date this year that cracked 52,000 in attendance.

The Orange Bowl guy's quote, verbatim:

“With the result of that game, you have a two-loss team compared to a one-loss team,” Orange Bowl chief executive Eric Poms said. “That was probably our most pressing thing to look at.”
