I got the Third Man and Band of Brothers on Blu Ray last weekend.

You're in for some good movie-watching. I love when History Channel does their Band of Brothers marathons.

a great spectacle of a historical fiction movie. Lots of action. Great use of natural settings. Good musical score.

If you were creating a formula to generate my parents' perfect movie, the stuff you just listed would be that formula (and as such, they go bananas for Last of the Mohicans). For instance, they love Jeremiah Johnson.

Yeah, it is a bit formulaic of a movie. But IMO much better than others of that ilk - like "The Patriot" - never cared for it, or "Pearl Harbor" ridiculously stupid romance -in fact scratch Pearl Harbor -its not even a comparison. Mohicans is not as good as Braveheart - but in that territory IMO.

agreed.. and daniel day helps a lot too..
i just dvr'd "the age of innocence".. but i'm leary to watch it for some reason.. i think
that reason is winona ryder.. but.. it stars day lewis and it's a scorsese movie.. can
it be that bad? i honestly know nothing about it..

Regarding Daniel Day Lewis movies - Have you seen
The Boxer? I enjoyed it years ago, have it cued up for a rewatch.

Omaha - what did you think of Scorcese/Lewis "Gangs of New York"?

i thought "the boxer" was great.. obviously not his best.. but still well worth a watch..

in reference to "gangs of new york".. loved "bill the butcher".. didn't care too much
for the rest of it.. although i don't think it was complete crap like a lot of people..
cameron diaz really blew though..

I agree with your assessment on Gangs of NY -good but Old NY portrayal was a bit too post-apocapalyptic/violence always ruled for me. I forgot C Diaz being in it. I see IMDB rating for Gangs of NY is 7.4 while the Boxer is 6.9 - they probably should be reversed.

If anyone likes Action movie, you should watch this. This movie is inspired from English movie Memento

I've heard this is good. It's playing here and I wanna catch it... but I gotta find the 3+ spare hours to watch it.

has anyone seen/heard of "Fido"?...tis a zombie flick

I liked it. Forgettable but fun. My boyfriend is a veterinarian so he wants to see every sappy dog movie out there, so I tricked him into going to watch this with me, telling him it was a bout a dog.

I liked "Once" quite a lot and I have the soundtrack too. I've also been in a lot of the places that it was filmed when I was in Dublin including the music store where they sing that song at the piano (that was when I was shopping for an amplifier).

My favorite Daniel Day Lewis movie is "My Beautiful Launderette". I also liked "Ballad of Jackie and Rose" a lot and his small performance in "A Room with a View" was great too.

For you anime fans, the latest Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, etc) is called "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea" and it's an adorable little movie.



I also watched "Bolt 3D" recently, and it was definitely entertaining.

Watched "The Visitor" last week and really loved it. It stars the Dad from 6 Feet Under.

Gran Torino kicked ass. After Unforgiven I think it's my favorite directorial effort from Eastwood, even above Outlaw Josey Wales.
