did anyone else feel like the entire season totally jumped the shark last night? I've thought this was the best season, far and away, out of several very good seasons. Then, suddenly, that reporter chick that Quinn is banging sees Trinity and *TADA* it's her [expletive] father. Wha?!?! That's the dumbest most unnecessary ridiculous twist ever.

Then, suddenly, that reporter chick that Quinn is banging sees Trinity and *TADA* it's her [expletive] father. Wha?!?! That's the dumbest most unnecessary ridiculous twist ever.

I haven't been happy with the last few episodes. They killed Lundy too soon. They killed the Dexter is on the edge and spread too thin too soon. They made Trinity vulnerable. They needed more Dexter-Lundy tension, Lundy-Trinity tension and Dexter-Trinity tension.

I get why people like Dexter, but whenever I've tried to watch it I just get incredulous at how ridiculously out of touch the show is with reality. I've spent a grand total of 5 minutes inside a police station in my life, and I still can't get over the unnatural vibe. It would be understandable for Dexter to be off-kilter, but every character is implausible and artificial.

I'd like to see how it plays out, but I didn't think it was that bad. She seems like something of an accomplice or enabler, since she offed Lundy and therefore must know about all the killings. It'll be interesting to see if and how they account for her getting to being on the paper.

I don't find the characters that off the wall. Even Dexter is fairly normal. Masuka's schtick is a stretch, but he's the most extreme. Deb's personality reminds me of wife's (though more laid back), so I can't say she's unrealistic. Everyone else is pretty normal, or at least no more off the wall than most dramatic characters. Jesus, watch anything written by David Kelley. For cop dramas - I loved the Shield, but often found it over the top. I'm only bothered when characters start acting in ways they wouldn't (BSG), but as long as they're established up front as being a certain way I'll go along with it. The shows gets to set it's own conceit, and you take it or leave it. That's how I look at it.

-- thinking about that some more, I'd say Dexter isn't that steeped in realism to begin with. It's not attempting to be gritty or horrific. Miami is always clean and bright, washed out even. It's always been just a little cartoony, and a lot of the promotional material is very comic book-like. That Dark Avenger tangent they went on in Season 2 is indicative of that too, I think.


My complaints are pretty specific. I will say that Doakes never worked for me. Hated Lila and can't stand Rita. Do not like the Angel/LaGuerta storyline at all - It's like they took 2 characters they don't know what to do with and paired them up. I've always thought Dexter's dad shows up too much, and generally I don't like "head" characters. I thought after Season 1 was finished, he'd be gone. I'm trying to remember if the head version even showed up before Season 2. Season 1 mostly had him in flashbacks.

I could've bought that she shot Lundy for the story. It was a stretch but I could've rolled with it. And it would've made for a good enough twist as it was. I just don't see what purpose it has for her to be Trinity's daughter. It was a plot vehicle that was the equivalent of the wafer-thin mint in "The Meaning of Life". The whole season has been full of ample plot lines and twists and big characters. Creating something like that was the tiny little piece that went too far, for me anyway.

I definitely agree with this, though it's something they can re-visit, especially with the Rita/neighbor guy thing that's developing.

I kind of like the idea, as a story, that Trinity brought her up fully aware of his habits, or she found out early and didn't run. Maybe you could say it's a reverse of Dexter and his father. Might also account for Trinity's efforts to create a more perfect family. We'll find out how twisted she is herself, but maybe she's spent years covering his ass because he has some kind of hold over her.

I didn't know that about the chick quinn is banging, and I thought I was caught up. When did this happen? I last watched the episode where Trinity went crazy on his son and Dexter strangled him with his belt.
