Statement from Head Football Coach Gary Pinkel
“Last night after practice, I met some friends for dinner. After dinner, I was stopped by a Boone County officer and received a citation for impaired driving. First and foremost, I am very disappointed in myself for my lack of judgment in this instance. Nobody should drink and drive, including me. My staff and I constantly reinforce with each of our players the importance of not putting yourself into a position such as this. I did not follow that here and for that, I sincerely apologize to the University of Missouri, to our administration, to the Board of Curators and to our fans. I have already met with our staff and communicated with our players and have apologized to them. I accept full responsibility for my actions and will abide by whatever course of action our leadership deems appropriate.”
Statement from Director of Athletics Mike Alden
“We are extremely disappointed in Gary’s lack of judgment. He is known as a man of great character and integrity. However, this absolutely goes against everything we stand for, and everything that he teaches his players in regards to our social responsibilities. We hold ourselves to very high standards, and this is a very serious breach of those responsibilities. We are gathering facts and will take action appropriately, and when those actions are determined, we will communicate them publicly.”
NOTE TO MEDIA – Director of Athletics Mike Alden will be available to the media this afternoon at 4 p.m. in the Stalcup room at Mizzou Arena for a brief period of time. To access the Staclup Room, park in the south lot of Mizzou Arena, and come into the main Athletic Department entrance. Take the elevator to the 2nd floor and the Stalcup Room will be to your right.

Kinda interested in finding out what his BAC was. To me it sounds like he probably just had a couple drinks and had no idea he was over the legal limit.jeffbgoofy wrote:Y didn't the Boone County officer just not take him home? Is he a Kansas fan?

Re: Mizzou Football 2011
A significant portion of MADD was against lowering the bar to .08 from .10.
I agree with them. It takes what like 3 hours of a crews overall time to Initiate/test/transport/file/process/etc a DUI arrest. That's 3 hours of time to get a guy that's at .08 off the streets. It just so happens it's probably just a little bit longer than the time it takes to get a guy that's .20 off the street. There are limited amounts of crews out there.
Plus, come on, .08 isn't that drunk. A lot of times despite people being extremely capable of driving, cops are just on power trips.
I got pulled over once for having a expired tags. [expletive] that. I was the 'designated driver' for the night. I refused to blow because they had zero reason to ask me to. I don't know what I was, but I passed all the [expletive] tests, refused to blow and STILL got arrested on suspicion of DWI.
Had I drank, [expletive] yeah. Had I consumed too much, not in my mind. Could I pass the eye test? Yes. Could I pass the walk test? Yes. Could I stand on one mother [expletive] god damned [expletive] leg? Yes. Could I talk coherently? Yes. Did I [expletive] stutter? No. Did I make sense? yes. Was I pulled over for driving incorrectly?!?!?!? NO.
Still. DWI just becasue I refused to blow, which is apparently an admission of guilt. Yes, you read that correctly - if you don't do what the mother [expletive] man wants you to do, they take that as youa re guilty. Anway, refusal to blow, admission of having a drink (which isn't illegal) and smelled like alchohol (see the previous reason) gets you arrested....DESPITE NOT IN ANY WAY IN MY DRIVING OR BEHAVIOR DID I ACT DRUNK. Regardless, they take me to the police station and at this point, I became irate. told them to go [expletive] themselves blah blah blah despite being calm and colected and what not at the scene.
Paid a lawyer 1500 [expletive] dollars and was 6 months later acquitted.
I mean, [expletive] the cops for arresting me in the first place. They couldn't build a case so they went to the old trick of asking me to blow. It's [expletive] ridiculous that you have to prove yourself innocent time and again. Was I above 0.08? I have no idea. Probably not, but the honus isn't on me and shouldn't be.

There are actually people calling for Pinkel to be fired over this. Not to downplay the seriousness of the offense, but you have no idea how pissed I'd be with the university if they did that.
