Re: Garbage on Facebook
I was apparently following the "official" feed which had like 2.2 million whatevers, and at some point a secondary page which had 190k followers, which was suddenly spamming the idiotic daily clickbait crap. Un-liked as it were. First world online crisis averted.

Re: Garbage on Facebook
This isn't garbage but saw a suggestion for somebody I may know on FB and it was a guy I went to HS with. It is fun to randomly see somebody you haven't talked to in nearly 20 years on there. My graduating class at Metro was only 44 so even if we weren't great friends, everybody knew each other and got along.
Well, this guy apparently moved to Atlanta and got into body building as evidenced by the picture of him right after winning a competition. Imagine Rick Ross (same complexion, bald head and exact same beard) crossed with an even more jacked Terry Crews. I wish I had that kind of dedication for anything. Impressive amount of work he's put in to get that ripped.

Re: Garbage on Facebook
Reminds me of a buddy I was good friends with growing up. We've seen each other maybe twice since graduating 25 years ago, but I'm glad to keep up with him through Facebook. About a week after graduating, he joined the Air Force and hasn't come back. He's now running his own gym in Oregon, up to about 280 lbs, and is a brick house. For all the crap on Facebook, this is why I stay on, to be able to still communicate with those I no longer get to see.tlombard wrote:This isn't garbage but saw a suggestion for somebody I may know on FB and it was a guy I went to HS with. Nice, but it still wouldn't do it for me (to get on FB). I wouldn't have time to manage the friends requests. To follow an old HS friend like that, my FB BS filter would be have to be so low I would end up reconnecting w/dozens of tea partyin douchebags HS friends and whatnot that I never much liked in the 1st place.
Am I missing out? I don't think so. I have plenty of underserved relationships and friends in the real world

Re: Garbage on Facebook
anyone have that girl on their friends list that embraces being a "badass [female dog]" and shares memes about being a badass [expletive] that she totally relate to?
Look, we get it, youre a badass [expletive], but no one likes you, probably because youre a [expletive].
Im reminded of a meme i saw recently: "You're over 30 years old, you don't have "haters", you have people that find you annoying"
She is the person that meme was made for.
Anyway, she also shares tea party posts, mostly about how recipients of food stamps should be drug tested, etc...things of that nature.
She's had several different serving jobs over the past couple of years and i can only imagine she didn't leave any of them voluntarily.

Since the Planned Parenthood video story and the approaching election I have "unfriended" several folks on FB. Just can't deal with all of the political bullcrap.

Re: Garbage on Facebook
One of my favorite things to do is look up posts that don't pass the smell test on Snopes to see if they are real. Then I reply to it with the Facebook post with the Snopes article. Someone posted this "message" from George Carlin to Facebook. It took 2 seconds to Google it and find it was false. It's rare though that it gets this strongly refuted by Snopes:

George Carlin very emphatically denied he had had anything to do with "Paradox," a piece he referred to as "a sappy load of [expletive]," and posted his comments about being associated with this essay on his own web site.

Re: Garbage on Facebook
So one of my best friends from college got married, despite everyone's concerns. His husband is like 22 and in the few times I've met him, and based on other stories of his antics, has seemed vapid, immature, dramatic, and highly annoying.
The husband sent me a FB friend request. I gave it some thought, but reluctantly accepted. How bad could it be?
In the first day of our "friendship," the husband posted EIGHTEEN separate FB posts. Including four check-ins AT THEIR OWN HOUSE. Holy mother of God, you think anyone needs to know that you are AT YOUR HOUSE? Everything else was either a preening selfie, some dumb meme, or numerous comments concerning his desire to sleep with the new Canadian PM.
Do I hide him, unfriend him, delete facebook, or just set fire to my computer and phone?

Re: Garbage on Facebook
Where's the option for Liking every post he has within minutes, re-sharing every meme, and putting hourly posts on his wall like "YOU GUYS R 2 CUTE!!" with fifteen emojis?
My minor gripe of the morning: Two of my first five shares on my feed today were from the same fake NBC website, one a link to a 2 month old fake article on the nonexistent Big Lebowski 2 and now a terribly written article saying Yelp is Suing South Park. Come on, people, look at the source before you post.
But damn that South Park episode was fantastic.

Re: Garbage on Facebook
I hear you, zeus. If I accept an obligatory friend request, I give the person one chance. If I wake up and see my FB news feed blown up with their stupid [expletive], I just unfollow them.
Sadly, I do this to family members too. I feel really bad because I've done it to my sister - she lives 1,000+ miles away back in MO with the rest of my family, and I only see them a couple times a year if I'm lucky. Plus she has an 8 year old daughter who happens to be my only niece and whom I love dearly and enjoy getting updates on/seeing pictures of. However, she shares about a billion pictures a day and checks in everywhere and I swear plays 35 different games every hour and posts her results on FB. I just can't deal with it.
I've also done it to a couple aunts, cousins, and my former landlord. And countless former high school "friends," many of whom I don't even remember who they are.
