Getting back to Maddon. Where does he end up? Is it fait accompli that he'll end up in Anaheim or could one of the other clubs scarf him up (like Philly or NYM)?

But also: Placido Polanco come on now even lil albino Eckstein got on base more often than Placido, and Torres sports a 511 SLG at age 23, so there's some legit power in that bat.

I was talking more about overall value and positionally pointing out he's very much not a SS than the specific skillset, but Polanco had a few seasons with an OPS+ in the 120s too, which isn't very far from where Torres has been. Again, it's a compliment, I really liked Polanco!33anda3rd wrote:This.BottenFieldofDreams wrote:I don't know how you make a Cubs fan look back on any decision from 2016 with regret.

Hard to say until other teams get further down the interview process, but sure seems like heavy odds he goes home to the Angels.Radbird wrote:Getting back to Maddon. Where does he end up? All the smoke seems to be going back to the angels, but I don’t know why/I wouldn’t if I were him. Yes, they have the best player in trout and one of the most exciting in ohtani...but the pitching and rest of the team are garbage.Radbird wrote:Getting back to Maddon. Where does he end up? If I were him, I’d be all over the Padres...got all the young stars coming up with machado. Could be the next “cubs”

Well yeah ok then you oughta be full-on tumescent for Torres b/c Polanco was -1.0 fWAR through age 23 and Torres is +5.6. Plus Torres's wRC+ is 123. Do you know the list of 2B in the modern era (let's say 1970 to present) with a 123 wRC+ through age 23 (min 800PA)? It's: Even if we allow for moving him down the defensive spectrum, the number of LF in history with a higher wRC+ than he, since 1970, with 800+ PA, is a list of only 12 names. Bonds was at 124 through age 23, a point higher.Transmogrified Tiger wrote:I was talking more about overall value and positionally pointing out he's very much not a SS than the specific skillset, but Polanco had a few seasons with an OPS+ in the 120s too, which isn't very far from where Torres has been. I would imagine cubs fans feel about their Torres for Chapman trade similarly to how Cards fans feel about the 2011 Colby for Edwin Jackson, Scrabble, et al trade.
A future sacrifice for a present fix. Maybe bad process, good result? But when the result is a WS, it’s hard to have regrets.

IMO good process good result. Postseason series are won and lost by bullpens and Chapman gave them like 16, 16 innings or work that postseason.heyzeus wrote:I would imagine cubs fans feel about their Torres for Chapman trade similarly to how Cards fans feel about the 2011 Colby for Edwin Jackson, Scrabble, et al trade.

I'm not bemoaning the trade just stanning Torres a bit, he's on my dynasty fantasy team and I'm fully in love.
