Yeah, don't take notice that Mizzou just beat Kansas the week before.“With the result of that game, you have a two-loss team compared to a one-loss team,” Orange Bowl chief executive Eric Poms said. “That was probably our most pressing thing to look at.”

If that's the standard that they're using, then we're back to Hawaii deserving a shot at a national championship, aren't we?
I've tried to give the BCS the benefit of the doubt, but what a train wreck.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply you were being sarcastic, I was just trying to convey that there really is no sane reason.Socnorb11 wrote:I was being serious. Have they given a reason? I mean, we all know that they didn't do it just to "stick it to Missouri". There HAS to be some reasoning, but what is it?
What was Missouri's average attendace? Better or worse than Kansas?

Not necessarily, re: Hawaii. Other than the Championship game, the other bowls have lots of autonomy in picking whoever they want (i.e. the criteria that the Orange Bowl guy uses is not the same as the criteria that the Championship game uses). And there's no autonomy at all with the Championship game.

What a cop-out. Anybody could look at their records and say, "Okay, Kansas has one loss, while Missouri has two. Kansas deserves a better bowl game." What matters is that people who follow college football religiously are making these decisions, and they should be able to give us more than, "One team has one fewer loss." Missouri beat Kansas one whole week ago. Have they already forgotten? Instead of giving us a reason that might actually explain their decision, we're left with a stupidly obvious statement that in no way justifies Missouri getting snubbed. Thanks, Mr. Orange Bowl "I took the easiest way out instead of answering the hard question" guy.

Brad Edwards told Chris Dimino that the Orange Bowl probably thought that with Missouri coming off of a loss like they did that, the fan base would be demoralized and not want to show up.

I really don't understand why there are even "BCS bowls" anymore. Now that they have a distinct championship game, and the other big 4 bowls are just consolation bowls, why even lump them together? Just agree that the top two teams go to the championship, then let the bowls decide to invite whoever they want. Rose Bowl can keep their Big Ten/Pac-10 matchup, etc.
Oh wait, I do understand. $$$$$$$$$$$$

Well, that and their fanbase has already had to travel to 1 big game (to San Antonio), wheras the furthest KU fans have had to travel so far is ~60 miles East to KC. I could buy the argument that Kansas' fanbase might travel better than Mizzou's this winter.GatewaySnayke wrote:Brad Edwards told Chris Dimino that the Orange Bowl probably thought that with Missouri coming off of a loss like they did that, the fan base would be demoralized and not want to show up.
But apparently the Cotton Bowl isn't concerned that Mizzou fans won't want to come down to Texas again.
