Not nearly as bad as I thought at Schucks. Outside of the TP and bananas, it was stocked. An overreaction about the overreaction

My family has had to deal with some pretty bad hands over the years where we needed a plan. Like the flood of 93 and of 2019. Both years had some seriously scary moments that you plan for but assume never happens. However today when we had a big family meeting about what to do if the [expletive] really hits the fan here that was the most unnerved I've ever been.

Obviously it's one of those let's plan for it but it will never happen things, but will it? It's also super scary that my parents and aunts and unlces are elderly and they kind of look to me to get things done.

I guess I'd feel better if we had adults in charge in Washington and there weren't right wingers posting pictures of their arsenals on Facebook saying "I'm ready."

This country has gone [expletive] nuts.

I went to Costco to stock up a bit. Same thing. They had plenty of supplies minus paper products which were gone and meat which was heavily picked over. Lol, except bison. No one wanted ground bison. One lady next to me looked at it and said, "Bison? Not even if I'm starving" Uh, really? Its not all that different tasting than beef. I mean, it is, but its not crazy different. More for me I guess. (Though I just took enough for a couple of weeks)

People, lets be reasonable. Yes, stock up, but for a couple of weeks, not 2 years. Lets be a community and leave stuff for the next family.

Also, think about the un-housed at this time. They CAN'T self-quarantine. See what the shelters near you need as you do your supply runs. Disposables like plates and cutlery and soaps and bleach are needed just as much as food items. (which many businesses are stepping up to donate)

Got word from the SIL that Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville AL is reporting their first case. My niece works there and got an email.
At this point, just assume you've been exposed and prepare. No need to go crazy. I still think it'll be behind us by summer.

Definitely no need to go crazy, but I think part of the problem is people have no idea how to take care of themselves. This country is so used to 24/7 stores and two day shipping that so few people plan a week ahead let along two or four. I always felt like that's where us rural folks were at an advantage because you just aren't going to run to the store every day to pick up something for dinner. We basically have to plan it a week in advance. We also grow a lot of our own food which helps too. Our freezer has a years worth meat for my wife and I, if we add in my parents I guess it's six months worth, but my parents are generally well stocked too. My best friend is a pork and cattle producer and I can see his house from mine. We provide him with some feed, he gives us some meat. We've already talked about it, we will just work together to make sure our families are good.

I don't know if the town people or city people have that luxury. Which most of the time it's not one, but in situations like this it is. My only concern is seeing how people are freaking out now, what happens if things do get desperate. I have no doubt people would rob and kill if things get a little worse, let along catastrophically so.
