According to the probable cause statement released by the Boone County Circuit Clerk and first posted by KSDK-TV in St. Louis, officers observed him driving his Chevy Navigator north on Highway 63 at 10:09 Wednesday night, and when he exited onto Broadway Pinkel failed to signal for a lane change. He made a wide right turn at the top of the exit ramp from the left turn lane. As he approached Keene Street, Pinkel made a wide left turn and crossed the double yellow line several feet before the intersection. His vehicle nearly struck a curb as he turned left into a parking lot.
When approached by the officer, Pinkel’s eyes appeared glassy and bloodshot and the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Pinkel said he drank two glasses of wine between 8 and 9:30. He declined a field sobriety test because of an Achilles’ tendon injury and agreed to do other tests that would not require walking. The officer detected signs of impairment during the tests and requested a blood sample, which Pinkel declined to submit. He agreed to be transported to Boone Hospital for a blood draw “due to exigent circumstances.” The statement does not indicate the results of those tests.
A lot of that sounds like it could have been embellished by the officer, and requesting a blood test from a hospital instead of a field test is a good idea. I've been told by officers before to go that route since some officers will lie about the results since a DUI can bring in a lot of money.

I mean, Pinkel was drunk - it's not unfathomable that he might not be driving in a straight line, failed to signal, made a wide turn, etc. Heck, I drove drunk many times when I was younger (now realize how stupid it was). I don't have much doubt that I was a little squirrelly behind the wheel.

I'm all for hitting drunk drivers hard, I just have a hard time believing a man who had two drinks at dinner is any more a danger to society than any sober driver on the road. Now people want him to lose his job and he's being suspended for two weeks. He'll be paying out the ass in court fees and paying a lawyer to take care of it as well. That's just a huge price to pay for doing at dinner what about anybody over the age of 21 does.

You think it's out of the question that he had more than 2 drinks? By 10:00?
I don't see what the big deal is. Pinkel drinks. So what? Maybe he had to much and got behind the wheel (like I said, I've done it). He seemed really sincere in his apology, which is cool. I don't think anyone really thinks any less of him.
