Another amazing thing I noticed while watching highlights that caused me to check the game log:

He struck out eight guys looking, none of them were pitchers, and every single one was on a fastball. Tulowitzki three times and CarGo twice. How good does your location and movement have to be to get that many Ks with fastballs where the guy can't even get the bat off his shoulder? He's pummeling the strike zone all night and they still get caught looking. Unbelievable.

on another message board they say 3 of his fastballs are completely different and have late movement.

I missed the game because of the opening of little league here, but on the highlights, his fastball certainly looked like he had more movement than usual.

He was pretty consistently 94-95 which is nothing to sneeze at, but also not enough to make big leaguers look that feeble without some serious movement.

Goold confirms - Shelby's game had the highest GS for a nine inning game ever for a Cards starter.

Great article - he also lists the extra-inning GS's, some of which peaked at well over 100. But can you imagine pitching 16 shutout innings and getting a freaking no-decision???
