Rolen and Edmonds dont belong in the same breath as AP. There are a couple of those quality players on every team in baseball. With albert there is a couple of those quality players in all of history.
Yes but Albert left, clearly didn't care about St. Louis and St. Louis can't care about him now. The team and fans after today can not look at the past like the Cubs do or the Red Sox did. For 100 years the Sox fans talked about losing Babe Ruth and it crept into the psyche of the team. The Cardinal fans need to take a day, let it all out be pissed, sad, whatever and then move on. They should give #5 to the next prospect that comes up and move on with it.

I do expect a bunch of stuff to come out about a rift in the clubhouse between the Latino players and the non-latino. I felt that Furcal, Pujols, Molina, Dotel, etc were all close and it seemed that Holliday, Berkman, Rasmus, etc were never that close to him.

I know he's an all-time great, but because he left for the money, he shouldn't be treated any differently. He shouldn't get the priveledge of getting his number on that outfield wall. He shouldn't get the statue. IMO, at this point, that should be something he forfeited.
I don't want to see AP have his cake and eat it too. If his number is ever retired, it should be 30-40 years from now and only after others have used it. Maybe someone else will distinguish themselves in it and it'll be 2 names retired with the number.

Yea... But he left us. He can take his number with him. It's no different than any other number to me. This isn't personal at all, and neither should the number 5 be.

As a Brewer fan, I was wondering the exact same thing.

Forgot all about Yadi and this deal. How's he going forward? Seemed like Pujols was his BFF, Amigo, Godfather, personal hitting coach etc etc. Hopefully he has enough of it down now.

Don't ever retire that number. Ever.

We retired #24 for a man that won us a championship and then ditched us a little bit down the road. Not that I agree with it, but our rule seems to be if you go into the HoF as a Cardinal, we'll retire your number. Until that happens, Nick Punto can wear it for all I care.

Yep.
Boyer's there (11 years), Dizzy Dean with 7, Sutter with 4 years.
It'll be retired on the 20 or 25th anny of the WS.
