When my son was teaching at his previous school he had a little girl named Tequila. You know, after the town in the state of Jalisco in the country of Mexico. Tequila.

I hope one of these asshats gets their face ripped off by a bear.
Park officials in South Lake Tahoe in California are warning visitors that they should not try to take pictures with their wildlife.

“We’ve had mobs of people that are actually rushing toward the bears trying to get a ‘selfie’ photo,” Lisa Herron, spokesperson for the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, told the Reno Gazette-Journal. “It is presenting a safety issue. We are afraid someone is going to get attacked.”

This stupidity goes back as long as photos exist, i suspect. I remember hearing stories back in the 80s about the same sort of thing. "Honey, put jr on the buffalo so I can get a picture."

I know I am going to sound like a pie in the sky idealist, but:

The hate in the comments on facebook are so egregious that I think the whole world might be asshats.

Most of the people here make me think - no - we are the majority, we are normal and we are what most people are.

But we aren't.

The vast majority of people seem so full of hate they could fuel nuclear weapons.

This is why every year I pledge to stop reading comments sections on websites.

Do you know who comments there? People like my dad. Old. Retired. Nothing but time on their hands to listen to talk radio and Fox News. Grew up in an era where white men got everything they wanted, and everyone else "knew their place." The world is now scary to them. Gays can marry. Feminists demand things like equal pay. Hispanics, at least in Texas, will be the majority within a few years. And black people have always been scary to them, and now "they" allowed one of them to be PRESIDENT.

These people have lots of time to comment on your daily newspaper's website. They're too cowardly to say things like this to your face, but the anonymity and lack of interpersonal barriers of the internet allow them to say it freely. There are a lot of people like this, but they're dying off. And they're marginalized, and they know it. Their viewpoints are no longer the accepted mainstream of America. They're angry because of that loss of privileged/exalted status. Ignore them. Let them continue to be angry and continue to be relegated to the closet (oh, irony!) and continue to die away.

Think about it this way: Once upon a time, not long ago, the Klan was a public organization. They had elected officials who were members! Police officers publicly took part in rallies! Now, they're a shadowy backwoods group if inbred degenerates who nobody wants to be associated with. That's the direction America is moving, ever so slowly, but it's happening.
